Funny that you mention that, because I actually know somebody that is working on a 6-button rhythm game via Game Maker Studio. As far as I've seen from his project, there are some complexities involving making the game actually function consistently like Stepmania, but it's definitely proven to be possible. It even is being run on an online server. Let me throw down a link to the guy's Patreon. I'm sure he'd know a thing or two about how to improve this game:

You might want to reconsider some of that color design. Right now, when the background changes to light-blue, the songs with white text become basically unreadable. Also, I assume the font itself is temporary, because it feels like a stock font at the moment. You'll want to have something more stylized for the final product, like maybe something that looks like a VCR font or a computer console font except maybe with some sort of glowing effect or "glitchiness" to go with this whole cyber thing you've got going on.

Yeah I kinda noticed the white song font would be bright and a VCR font sounds like a good idea and some glitch/shacking going on..?
