Beep boop...HELLO DARLING! 01angel here with some BIG news~ (|[*'v'*]|)
I've got my own simfile category now, because, yes - I now make simfiles! ✧\\ ٩( 'ω' )و //✧
Here is my first-ever simfile that I've created:
Airport Shuttle - Chilt Featuring AquesTone
~REVISED 7:45 PM EST ON DEC. 2, 2016 - NO LONGER OFF-SYNC~
2 | 3 | 5 | 8
(Ratings are "classic" scale. If you have an idea for what its DDR X scale ratings could be, please tell me!)
Before I start, I'd like to thank some of my sweet friends for helping me make this simfile a reality:
SZ64saulius for being supportive of me, helping me navigate StepMania, and answering my questions
Blinded_No_More for helping me with some glitches I encountered in the process of making the simfile, and for informing me of how the ZIv simfile-uploading system works
And, hamsand210-final for being so very kind and helping me when I first downloaded StepMania.
You guys rock!
Making this simfile took me five days straight. I don't know if that's a long time to make a simfile, but it both flew and felt like forever...The song was pretty straightforward for me to step, but I did encounter some bugs along the way. First thing's first, when I was making it, I had its whole chart done...but I forgot to save it and I had to start that chart up all over again! Then, I ended up creating a glitched, second single chart. I don't even know how I did it, but once I discovered that you could edit an .sm file in NotePad, the glitch chart got removed.
I think the hard work I dealt with to make this simfile paid off...but then again, keep in mind that I'm even more of a newb at stepping than NewbStepper even is
With that being said, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE download this chart (if you want, no pressure ) and give me feedback on it. I appreciate positivity, honest opinions, and constructive criticism - it would be beneficial for helping me improve. Don't just say "BAWWWW YOR CHART SUKZZZ!1!1!!!" without giving me a real reason behind your thinking. I want to improve and stay confident in myself, not be brought down.
Stepping isn't the only thing I do - I also create the graphics for my simfiles as well! Using iPad app You Doodle, website BeFunky, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator (when I'm at school and I have access to these), I generate banners, backgrounds, and jackets for them all myself. My graphics tend to be generally aesthetic in nature, using elements from the popular "hipster", "kidcore", and "pastel" graphic trends, although I do also make "official-looking" graphics for some songs. (|[*^ω^]|)
All in all, I'd love it if you can support me and my StepMania works and subscribe to my "01angel's Collection" category. (|[• ‿ •]|) I am currently stepping another song, which you can expect to see posted here within the next week!

Here's a helpful hint for you and for anyone else that makes simfiles:
Please test your simfile out on a pad, or on an imaginary pad. Play with your two index fingers if you don't have legs, or try imagining dancing it out properly.
Not going to comment on the quality of your simfile as it is your first, but please playtest.
If it is not fun for you when you dance, then revise it.
You're a sweet girl with time and many people who can help out. Before submitting, maybe consider having someone else go over the simfile(s).

Did you give this chart to anyone before you publicly released it? Asking because this Expert chart looks very... whew. I'm not one to complain about "ambiguity" in files but these steps sure are full of it. There's a few doublesteps, again, not too major in my opinion, but it simply looks like something that wasn't made with pad play 100% in mind.

I playtested it on my fingers, and I personally found it fun. I didn't give it to anybody but I did show it to SZ64saulius via Skype call. He thought it was good, but he didn't go much further than that. In the future, I will give my simfiles to people to test out before releasing them publicly. Thanks for the advice! I'm talking with 01angel on Skype as we speak. I'm going over basic things first, like getting things synced and stuff. We'll discuss playtesting and things like that soon.

Had a go at the expert simfile. Plays off-sync for me for a start, but i'm new to Stepmania myself so idk if that's the file or if that's just me. The steps are OK, but there were a few that felt out of place with the general rhythm of the song, and as said above by Quickman it doesn't look quite configured for pad play.
Overall, for a beginner, I feel like it was a first good attempt but you should definitely keep practising.
Aegis mentioned having someone test the stepfiles before you release them - I'm more than happy to help with that!

if you're making a pad file, i cannot recommend enough that you do not thiseven if you don't have a pad, pretending there is one and stepping it out is a good way to check for flow errors and inconsistencies and ambiguity
because otherwise you got some not friendly stuff on your hands

Thanks for all the critique, everyone! I am currently fixing my charts as we speak, and using the assist claps so that they are as synced as possible. I will update the OP when I am finished with the fixes!
EDIT: Goodbye to the stinky, off-sync charts of earlier today - hello, UPDATED charts that have been tested and now are pretty darn on-sync with the song itself! Try re-downloading it if you want to evaluate it now
I'd especially love if you could evaluate both its and charts, not just the one
That's a good call, too. I'll try that when I step my next file, which I want to be for pad

Beep boop~ My second simfile is HERE! I personally think this one is better than Airport Shuttle, which I learned a lot from. Using assist ticks really helped me to sync songs better! (|[>W<]|)
COMPUTER OBAACHAN - V.C.O. featuring Alt
1 | 2 | 4 | 7
(Ratings are "classic" scale. Once again, if you have an idea for what its DDR X scale ratings could be, please tell me!)
This quirky kids' song with squiggly synths, originally hailing from the popular Japanese TV series Minna no Uta, or "Everybody's Song", before Alt covered it, was pretty simple for me to step if I say so myself. Its beginner, light/basic, and standard/difficult charts are more "pad-like", whereas the expert chart is more "keyboard-like", so I'd say it's a keyboard chart that can be played on a pad for a little bit of a challenge.
This simfile also shows you what my more "official-looking" graphics look like. I made them in Adobe Illustrator at school.
Please download and enjoy this simfile, and GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK! If there is anything that needs improving, tell me, PLEASE!

(|[ATTENTION, PLEASE!]|)
I am glad to say that COMPUTER OBAACHAN HAS BEEN FIXED! °˖✧◝(|[⁰▿⁰]|)◜✧˖°
It now has the MP3, which I originally forgot due to rushing and excitedness...
So, if you haven't already downloaded it, get it now ~ and if you already downloaded it, download just the MP3 and pop it into your COMPUTER OBAACHAN folder!
Once again, feedback would be greatly appreciated! (|[^v^]|)

Well, wasn't that a fun pad play. (no)
Okay, I know you said "hey, this is a keyboard chart", but I'm criticizing it as a pad chart because... well, you could bash your face against the keyboard and end up with a semi-decent keyboard chart.
First off - not a 7. I would rate this as a solid mid-8. Also, I left out a few things that others will complain about, but this is all subjective and just my personal take on the chart. (I didn't play Standard or below, 4s don't interest me, SORRY.)
Most players will hit the down arrow with their left foot because the left arrow is much closer to the down than the up arrow. You end up not spinning and just looking a bit silly as you face backwards if you do it the normal way. I would suggest changing the two Left/Up jumps to Left/Down jumps. This way, the player's right foot will already be on down and the pattern will work properly.
Players see "U-R-U" and will hit them with left-right left. Basically, to stop this going into an incomplete spin, add a down arrow on b74. Sorted.
I question you just putting four left arrows here. Since the song goes "boop boop beep boop", instead of "L-L-L-L", do "L-L-D-L", "L-L-U-L" or "L-L-R-L" instead. It compliments the music more and just seems better than DUHDUHDUHDUH.
You end up going the wrong way half way through this little mini-stream. Don't really know what else to say there, just revise it, change the pattern. There are many ways this could work and I'm not going to waste your time in describing them all.
This is like the pattern above but amplified in problems. Thankfully, the fix is simple - just change that top Up arrow to a Down or a Left.
I get the feeling you mean for players to hit the Up and Down with the same foot, as if you hit Up with your left foot and then Down with your right foot, you get fucked quite badly. Extend the freeze arrow another 8th, so that the freeze ends with the Down hit to better signal that to players.
Same deal here. Extend that freeze arrow another 8th.
This Up arrow on b195 goes to absolutely nothing. If you were meaning to make it so it matches the synth, move it down an 8th so it falls on b195.5.
What are these freeze jumps for? It's quite an awkward break...
This pattern ends you facing the wrong way and the jumps aren't a good way of turning you back around. Change the "R-R-L(freeze)" to "U-R-L(freeze)" to fix this.
Awkward jumps smacked in the middle of a stream... well, okay.

I haven't played your files yet, but I have a suggestion, prefer using ogg over mp3 for the audio format, mp3 can't be downloaded separately from ZIv for some reason I don't know, and sometimes cause troubles in the step editor.

Oopsies...looks like I forgot that too
(The audio I used for my COMPUTER OBAACHAN chart came from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p0_q7eF8OQ)
Also, thanks oodles for the review, Quickman
I suck at rating songs. I really just go by what StepMania says the "predicted meter" should be for the song's chart, but /apparently/ that seems to "mis-rate" the songs...I believe that the chart is mis-rated now that you mention it, and is more worthy of being a 5 or 6 than a 4, heheh~
So, in the future, I will give the files to people to test so they can decide on the ratings.
I really liked how you went nice and in-depth on the review, pointing out where the "trouble spots" are in my chart. Maybe I'll make a second revision of the file featuring the corrections you suggested I should make. With each of my StepMania files comes a learning experience for me - I'll try to prevent the same mistakes I've made from happening again on other files I create.

Beep boop...I am back with yet another simfile! This one was a collab between me and my sweet friend SZ64saulius. (|[´▽`]|)
It was such a pleasure to work with SZ64saulius on this one! He's a really close friend of mine, and I loved being a part of this collab with him. The , , and charts are of his creation; I only did the and charts. The is more like an alternate (get it?!) hard/heavy/expert chart; it's really "how I would have stepped the chart of this song", heheh~
The graphics are of my creation as well - they spoof the artwork that goes with the original version of this song featuring Alt 1.0 and 2.0 dressed as, and doing the same pose as, the twins in the picture.
However, SZ64saulius did the CDtitle - it features himself alongside my OC Beatrix
We hope you enjoy this simfile we made together. Please give us feedback!

Well, 5 points for me cuz info, 3 charts & CD title
and for 01angel - 3 points cuz 2 charts & graphics (banner only equals 0.5 points so both of them with jacket equals 1.5 points)
I will reupload this once I have my own category and also I have more points of the simfile collab

Ladies and gentlemen! It's me again with YET ANOTHER SIMFILE...and I personally feel as if this is my best one yet! ✧\\ ٩( 'ω' )و //✧
Since DMAxel stepped WHITE BREATH, I thought it'd only be fair that the other (and better ) BONUS song got a simfile too♪
This is my first ever "real" pad chart. When I say "real", I mean it's been pad-tested, and I thought it was super-duper fun to play. It's also my first-ever simfile with custom BGChanges - it uses the classic DDR Beware background videos. So, it's got a Custom ZIP.
I'd like to dedicate this simfile to a sweet friend of mine who has cheered me on and has been really close with me ever since we met over the summer - LEDASTRAYTAY. She's pretty much the biggest BONUS fan I know. The "caramel1" BG animation was even put into there as a nod to Tay's Pop'n Music OC, Caramel. Hope you like it, Tay!
Critique would especially be appreciated on this one, because it's the first-ever "actual" pad chart I've done and I think it's the best simfile I've made yet. Please, download my new simfile and have fun!
