TecToy, Brazil's Sega distributor at the time, received full blessings to re-release the Genesis in 2017. This "new" version is going to come with an SD card slot so you cansave money and not need a Mega EverDrive play 22 packed-in games on the SD card, and emulate games with the real hardware! The only trade-off is that there's sadly no HDMI ports, only A/V cable support.
Before you ask, they aren't accepting international orders... at least not yet, anyway.
With this and the NES Classic, seems like re-releasing older consoles in one form or another is all the rage.

Like the article says, it's actually because the Genesis still sells to this day in Brazil. It probably won't be coming out anywhere else. (Except maybe Europe, but even that would be a long shot.)

Could have sworn I saw something like this to this in an Australian K-Mart store quite a while ago.

I'm thinking it's an aftermarket plug-n-play Genesis made by Majesco or some company like that; I've occasionally seen those myself at Walgreens or Rite Aid, but those generally have muddier graphics and sound for one reason or another. This one, on the other hand, is looking to be a full-on recreation of the Model 1 Genesis/MD, with the only difference being the SD card slot. Since TecToy sold the Master System and Genesis for the Brazilian market for way longer than any other region in the world, chances are they have the legit hardware that is essentially going to be like if you went back to 1988/89 and bought a brand new official console right out of the box.

Nintendo needs to rerelease the iQue Player for Pete's sake. It's a great controller and console design and it's something we never got out of China.
Joking aside, this is pretty cool. I'd pick one up if I lived there, because I don't own any Sega consoles whatsoever. I own a NES and a SNES, so having a Genesis that's actually a rerelease and not some cheap knock-off would be pretty sweet to have.
