I saw a thread for this, but it's a few years old, and we've gotten a lot of new 18s in that time. What do you think are some of the hardest 18-footers? You can post charts of the 19-footers if you want.

Good thing the title of this thread is talking about DDR and not something else
I would have to say that 嘆きの樹 is a hard 18 just by looking at it. It has a lot of 160 BPM 24th notes, which are equivalent to 240 bpm 16th notes, or basically VD 's speedrun, which is 480 BPM 8ths.

IX and Blew My Mind are definitely some of, if not THE hardest. I don't think they've even been PFC'd yet, but I'm not sure.

Many will say that IX is one of if not the hardest 18 in DDR
From personal experience its a pain both to pass and to score on. A chunk of the song is 198 BPM and a chunk is 396 which means there are slower sections that can screw you up if your looking for a good score. However the song overall will hammer you with 198/396 BPM 16th streams and lots of jumps to drain you of stamina which makes it extremely hard to pass as well. Finally the end has a 396 BPM 8th stream with crossovers and immediately after has a 396 BPM 12th note stream (equivalent to about 297 BPM 16ths) which can be hard to survive if you barely got past the crossovers and extremely hard to score on due to the sheer speed required to hit it accurately.
Hopefully this helps you out.

Blew My Mind has been PFCed by FEFEMZ and almost iamchris4life (He PFCed it except for missing the very last note)
I think it's also worth mentioning IX's 396 BPM 8th note stepjumps. It used to be the fastest stepjump until EGOISM came out, but it still is the fastest stepjump of all the 18s

Trip Machine Evolution is way up there, too. Still missing something that keeps it from being a 19, though.

Fascination Maxx has two 400 BPM 8th note stepjumps at the end, but it's still of note that neither of them involves a repeated arrow, so they can be slid/bracketed. Meanwhile, both of IX's stepjumps involve repeated arrows.Post #10 · Posted at 2016-03-27 09:50:16pm 8.4 years ago

IX and TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION are probably the toughest on single. (On Double, at least TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION is more doable, I find, not sure about IX). Syron talked a lot about IX which I agree with. TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION S- is hard mainly because of those 16th jump steps and the crossovers, although it can be easier for certain players who have an adequate technique for that. It's somewhat "cheatable" if you're just going for a pass.
The next runner-up is probably the new chart for MAX.(period). From having freezes that make you double tap different arrows that are 1/8 apart at 300 BPM, to that ending 600 BPM section with the 6th streams that have candles in them, it's both a pain to read and to step. The 600 BPM 6ths are equivalent in speed to 450 BPM 8ths, and with the patterns there, they really rival the beginning stream of Valkyrie dimension S-. It's also hard to read if you're using anything higher than 1x...
I also think POSSESSION S- is a tough 18 footer:... that chart is a nightmare in so many ways. The 65-note crossover stream before the second set of jumps is definitely among the toughest parts, but the fact that it has an awful number of jumps to tire you out and has 12th notes (1/6 apart from another) that are combined with jumps make up the icing on the cake. At least I know for sure that it is my personal hardest one pre-X3.
For double mode 18 footers, Pluto Relinquish D- comes to mind. The ending of this scares me more than Valkyrie dimension D-'s ending does. Tohoku EVOLVED D- and PARANOiA ~HADES~ D- come close.

Can't speak for doubles mode, so commentary on singles, all on :
POSSESSION: has that stupid lolcrossover stream right before the jump section, and then has the loljumpstream with the 12ths at the very end, but otherwise is more really tiring than horrific.
888: Challenging speed chart. It doesn't have horrendous pattern work, but it's still really hard just due to the "oh hey lets jam in ALL THE STEPS" brand of difficulty. And yet it doesn't really have anything (the fast part is honestly not that hard aside from the footspeed requirement) aside from speed and it's 750+ steps.
TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION: In all seriousness, this is kind of awkward, even if you're used to the motions. But still, it's definitely only deserving of the 18 label, given that PARANOiA REVOLUTION's 19-foot chart right next to it as far as DDR X3's unlock list went.
Blew My Mind: This is one of those charts I haven't really got enough experience with to make a judgment, but I hear it's quite difficult.
IX: This honestly could've been a 19. It would be considered easy for a 19, but still. Hardest 18 for sure.
MAX. (Period): I can't tell what's worse - the patternwork of the part right after the slow part (because terrible patterns at 10 steps per second), or the 6ths at 600 BPM (which are more doable patterns, but at 15 steps a second), and yet still I can't say this is that bad. I mean, it's pretty bad, but it's got nothing on IX.

This one is a highly technical chart. The early part of the song plays a bit like the 200 BPM ending section of New Decade (instead it's at 190), and then we got that hard-to-read 95 BPM section with 32nds in it. As soon as it speeds up, you start seeing a ton of crossover patterns and jumps, but nothing too long. Then you go back down into 190 with Freeze Arrows somewhat obstructing your vision if you haven't seen the chart before. And then it's fairly simple compare to the rest of the chart.Quote: wrsw

It's definitely many players' idea of hardest in level 18. The Expert chart is also tough for a 17 (at least on single), having the same notecount with the Challenge chart and all, and patterns that aren't always cake. It's tough to argue they should be two ratings apart.Quote: wrsw

I think it's the 600 BPM 6ths with the candles at the end that really bothers me. It gets bonus points for its reading difficulty. As far as patternwork goes, I would not say they are any worse than what is seen in PARANOiA ~HADES~ .Post #13 · Posted at 2016-03-28 03:56:49am 8.4 years ago

Oh right, almost all of those were purely for passing difficulty.
In terms of scoring, hardest 18 is probably DEAD END ("GROOVE RADAR" Special), because that thing is "pure wtf is this: the chart".
I can't find any way to make any run of that song any sort of consistent. Then again, I'm not exactly fond of playing that chart (ever), so I'm probably not a great person to ask.

True. Triple 16th jumps at 190 BPM: still no idea how to hit them consistently. Have you seen the chart on double? It's even weirder. In terms of scoring, hardest 18 is probably DEAD END ("GROOVE RADAR" Special), because that thing is "pure wtf is this: the chart".

Egoism 440 oni should be an easy 19, but the breaks makes it easy.

Legit though, if it was stream then it would be an itg 14, but because of the breaks it makes it a 13.7 to 14.1>"the breaks make it easy"
