"X scale 20" |
Many years ago there was a poll for rating scales in DDR and other 4-panel dance games.
To see if people preferred the classic scale or the X scale.
Vote for one of these choices:
Classic Scale
DDR 1-10, no ratings above 10.
ITG Scale
ITG 1-13, no ratings above 13
Extended ITG Scale
An open ended ITG scale that goes 1-22 and up.
DDR X Scale
The 1-20 scale in the X series of DDR games
Mungyodance scale
This is the ITG scale multiplied by 10.
Also, keep a running count of how many of each:
Classic Scale - 0
ITG Scale - 0
Extended ITG Scale - 0
DDR X scale -0
Mungyodance Scale - 0

I like the DDR X Scale, but that's just me.

Classic scale works for me. Maybe the ITG scale.

Heyo, responders...
Anyway, my vote is DDR X scale all the way. Can't believe it's been 8 years and it's still an uphill battle for its acceptance!
Classic Scale - 1
ITG Scale - 0
Extended ITG Scale - 0
DDR X scale - 2
Mungyodance Scale - 0
P.S. As per Pump it Up Pro (which is, for all intents and purposes, In the Groove 3 ~5 Arrow Boogaloo~, and has a lot of the same staff), the ITG scale actually goes to 15.

I would vote classic scale (with flashing 10 footers for charts that deserve higher). Asthetically I just like it better than the X-scale.

I've never heard anything about the extended ITG scale (then again, I'm not in the ITG or R21 community). Is it appended to original ITG scale and not more precise as the X-Scale was to the Classic Scale?

Personally, I'm also a fan of the X-Scale, as it provides the perfect amount of detail of a song's difficulty for me.

Would pick the x scale but we still don't have an official benchmark of what constitutes a 20, so...
EDIT: Given DDR Addict's point, changing my vote.

If we did have a 20, it would be pushing the limits of what is humanly possible anyway, and 20 seems like the perfect number to stop on too.

I like the feel of the Extended scale moreso than the X scale. Meanwhile I use Classic Scale for simfiles. Go figure.

I meant to say humanly possible in terms of the ability to clear it (within some reason) and in terms of the possibility to "speed dance" with it, not a "f*** you, you're going to fail no matter what" kind of chart. There's pretty much zero possibility that Konami is going to release a chart that would be rated anything higher than a 20, and even if such charts exist, they would've lost their fun factor a long time ago no matter what gimmicks are used (even the 19s are already stretching it).

Eh, it's what I'm used to. Although I'm getting pretty acclimated to the X-scale nowadays. Not enough to rate my own files yet, but enough to understand other songs' difficulty accordingly

Sure, the X scale shows exactly what to expect in terms of boss songs, but I've always preferred the simple 1-10 scale.
That being said, NeonFM's difficulty scale, where it uses a 0-100% scale, is probably the most accurate you would find, and wouldn't need to re-do the scale to compliment harder songs. >>

This was a coin flip for me between the original ITG scale and the Extended ITG scale. I realize that even in DDR, if I had to convert from X scale, I have to use the extended ITG scale as the method, as there are those songs that would be too hard for a standard ITG 13 (we all should know which 4 I'm referring to)

Short answer: The X-scale is fine
Long answer: Sure, the X-scale has a few faults, but I don't think any rating system will have its perfection without any errors or misrated songs. It's still, however, more precise when it comes to how difficult a song is. Easy just to say it's a 14, rather than trying to figure out if it's a very hard 9 or an easy 10 on the old scale or such.

Abstaining from voting, but if the Extended ITG scale is the same as ITG until 14+, what's the point of the ITG scale in this poll? It's made redundant by the Extended one surely?
