A long time ago I started to work on a Guitar Freaks & drummania StepMania theme. I only got far enough to figure out how to get the metrics right for GF&DM videos. If I can find the time I would like to work on it again, but first I would like to know if it has already been done.

Hmm. I'm actually pretty excited. Good luck on your project.

Somebody should be on Patreon to work on it. Theming takes a lot of work.

You can't do GuitarFreaks right in StepMania. You can't do DrumMania right either, but you could probably fake it better.

It is designed for step charts, not note bars.

i'm not a programmer at all but get my theory, guitar lads
The only real changes would have to be the ability to fret (hold down an arrow without actually hitting it) and strum (hitting a button which would trigger the hit of the arrows that are held down). Maybe also triggering the Overdrive/Star Power sensor by tilting the guitar up to trigger the Wailing Bonus.
Of course, this could be extended to Gitadora.
Actually it couldn't but you get what i mean

Yes, those are the only real changes, but they'd have to be done in the game engine in SM5. In fact, there was some code in place to support GH/RB/GF guitar and bass gameplay, but nobody ever finished it and it was removed. StepMania also only provides one judgment per row, which isn't how DrumMania works. That can be changed too, but not by a theme.

I am not proposing a theme that turns StepMania into Guitar Freaks. I am proposing a Guitar Freaks styled theme for Guitar Freaks StepMania packages.

... And, er, that's not what you meant? Either way, you won't really find a quality one. Best to make it yourself.

Assuming you don't mean actual GFDM simfiles, then yeah, your best bet would be to make something yourself. If you mean ACTUAL GFDM files, that's a whole other can of worms and you'd want to look at DTXMania for that.

It IS possible to implement a custom scoring system in a theme that counts each note on a row separately. Check this out: http://pastebin.com/vUiXrBUn
