I've always wondered why CAPTAIN JACK wasn't in DDR, but its GRANDALE MIX was. The original could've went in 3rd and the GRANDALE MIX could've gone in 4th.

Maybe I'm in the minority by saying this but I didn't really want any specific Dancemania songs in DDR because of StepMania.

That's fine, but personally I think there is value with having a reliable stepping team from Konami creating a full set of singles/doubles (and perhaps solo) charts and graphics for a song, as well as releasing it on arcade cabinets/consumer software that would ultimately reach a larger audience than if said song were to be released for Stepmania.Post #24 · Posted at 2016-02-10 06:05:42am 8.2 years ago
See, all of those things don't really matter to me. I think someone is capable of doing everything on that list themselves (maybe except releasing it comercially). I don't understand why people feel that only Konami can reach that tier of quality, so to speak.
Just because something has more exposure or reaches a wider audience doesn't mean that it's necessarily good.

It's just timing. Toshiba's side of the licensing agreement was that by giving Konami dirt-cheap songs, they got to advertise the Dancemania CDs in-game, and on the artwork plastered all over the front of the cabinet. Toshiba obviously had a say in which CDs they wanted Konami to push, and for DDR 3rd Mix, the newest Dancemania CDs pictured on the cabinet and used for the in-game licenses were :
Dancemania Speed 2 / 3
Dancemania X3 / X4
Dancemania SuperClassicx 1 / 2
The Captain Jack song had originally appeared on Dancemania 2, almost four years before 3rd Mix came out, while the Grandale Mix had just debuted on Speed 2, so it's a no-brainer as to which version Konami and Toshiba wanted to include in the game.
I guess the real question is why Captain Jack hadn't been used before 3rd Mix?

There are a good amount of songs from Next Generation / Blatant Beats (Brisk & Ham's label) that ended up in Dancemania SPEED, including Shooting Star by Bang! (which is labeled as Euro Mix officially), so I wanted to see these songs:
HARDCORE OVERDOZE / EUPHORIA
Angel Eyes / Brisk & Ham
Plus, this one:
Now Is The Time (Hixxy & Trixxy Remix) / Scott Brown

They could've pulled from EXTRA for 1st/2nd, but also 2002's BEST RED. Though, having the remix in the game at that point would make it a little strange to suddenly pull in the original.
Could've even done a crossover with 2011's Sparkle; I was secretly hoping X3 vs 2ndMIX would loop into the Dancemania releases at that time to pull songs, but alas.
CAPTAIN JACK also appeared on Dancemania 1. They really loved it, I guess.

Who else wishes that the Quiqman version of Neon Genesis Evangelion's theme was put in DDR just for laughs? Imagine all the memelords claiming that Cory In The House finally made it into DDR...

I don't remember what albums these two songs came from, but I remembered listening to these in my old laptop before.
AMNESIA / CHUMBAWAMBA
IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT / E-ROTIC

The unremixed 2 UNLIMITED songs (from Dancemania SUPER TECHNO and SUPER TECHNO 2) are also songs that I would have liked to see in DDDR (particularly 4th mix (PLUS) or, if the albums were out back then, 3rd mix (PLUS)).
