Hello, I know most of stepmania players probably don't listen to metal music, and I don't know why stepmania is so popular mostly among anime fans and in Japan. All of my friends who tried stepmania said they really enjoyed it and would love to play more. But sometimes they miss the right songs.

I think we can agree, that most songs are Japan related, and I had hard time finding some EU/US stuff. Incredible huge thanks to BEN SPEIRS and his packs! Who really saved me with his "western style" pop music. Still, that's only pop, and there's terrible situation with rock music. Only stuff I was able to find is Linkin Park. Maybe one song from System of a Down, Bring me the Horizon here and there, that's it...

That's why I would like to request rock/metal music, here are a few of my tips and bands I think deserve some love:

Slipknot - Psychosocial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5abamRO41fE
Papa Roach - Getting Away With Murder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rdmG0k8S8k
Guns N’ Roses – Paradise City http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbm6GXllBiw
Bullet For My Valentine - You Want a Battle? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sno_2g8Y-jI
Skillet - Hero https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGcsIdGOuZY
Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxuEtL7gxoM
Asking Alexandria - I Won't Give In https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VX0Bu_klgvo
Disturbed - Indestructible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWxBrI0g1kE
Korn - Evolution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8fm3Z7jgWM
Bring Me The Horizon - Happy Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBRAnuT48qo
Bring Me The Horizon - Shadow Moses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k9qDxyxS3s
Rage Against The Machine - Guerrilla Radio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0kJLW2EwMg
Skindred - Nobody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsQhuxPsSjE
SKINDRED - Volume https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vKPnLhmyBs
Of Mice & Men - Would You Still Be There https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW6TxK5HNNg
Our Last Night - 'Same Old War' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojeNjpogoqk
Falling In Reverse - "The Drug In Me Is You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgWr2nln83s
Memphis May Fire - The Sinner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPLLXQDNoFI

Crown The Empire - Machines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVLOa592jgk

I listen to rock and some metal, I guess, and I also make simfiles. But I've found that stepping this type of music is difficult, so I don't do it often (if I ever did at all).

Rock/Metal is often pretty tough to step, especially that a lot of rock doesn't keep a steady tempo so the BPM drifts all over the place. It becomes a real pain to sync. It doesn't help either that Stepmania is based on Dance Dance Revolution. The key word here being Dance, not Mosh.

I've stepped a few rock songs, though none from any of the artists you've mentioned (a very long time ago I did once try stepping Skindred, it didn't work out too well). Out of everything I've stepped, probably the closest thing to what you're looking for is Willpower, but even that's not really all that heavy compared to most of the bands you listed.

The only rock that belongs in DDR is pop'n crossovers.
That is all.

actually metal songs can be easy to step. I've stepped quite a few, though most of them are from Japanese circles. The biggest issue with them, especially with the older works, is that the BPM tends to drift a lot which would be syncing hell.

But groups like Yuyoyuppe, Demetori, and UNDEAD CORPORATION have fixed BPMs, thankfully, as well as nice patterns to step. Most of the time you'd be stepping either the guitar riffs or the drums/percussion (normally snare/bass pedal patterns).

And I've also made some metal songs too.

Deflowering the Maidenhead, Displeasuring the Goddess by Cradle of Filth
Achtung Panzer by Raubtier
Lőjetek Fel by Leander Rising

...I realize that all of these songs were in the Z-I-V Summer Contest 2015. Moderate success with those.

But yeah, as other people pointed out, the problem with rock/metal is the fact that the BPM is drifting. Normally it's almost impossible to get a good sync of files like that. I used to try that myself, and couldn't really do it. Darned shame too, since I listen to a lot of metal.

I've noticed that a LOT of rock post-2000 is click-tracked, so there's no issue with live BPM. It's not 100% foolproof, but it's more often than not.

I think it's because it is based off of DDR, and DDR originates in Japan, so...yeah.

"Yuuki Mishima for Tekken"
Speed Of Light / Stratovarius is a cool song from Eurocup 2013. Yeah, I think we could do with some more rock/metal simfiles. But looking at how people choose songs (Bring Me the Horizon? Really?) from the genre, I don't mind so much that it isn't well represented...

But yeah, more metal pls.

Haha thanks for the shout-out.. and sorry you had to dig through all the pop aha.

If you want you can have a peek in my latest category, right here, but if I'm honest I'm not sure if any of it will be heavy enough for you outside of Electric Eye / As I Lay Dying. Maybe The Downfall Of Us All / A Day To Remember, The Second Coming (Theme of Seth Rollins) / CF0$ and Throne / Bring Me The Horizon.

Hope you find what you're looking for! The problem as has been mentioned in this post is that pre-2000 metal/rock songs are very difficult to sync usually, hence me using a cover of the Judas Priest song instead of the original. I've tried to chart Sulfur / Slipknot very recently and just wow, even though it's modern it is still all over the place unfortunately.

"This hat hurts"
There also is a gold mine of songs waiting to be stepped in GF&DM.

It, like house and psy-trance, has fallen out in songlists for Denpa, Twerk, and Dubstep. Not to say those genres are entirely bad, but you get the gist.

Hello, new to the forum. First post.

I am also looking for some good simfiles of rock and metal. I am specifically looking for older 70s 80s groups like Queen, AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith, etc. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've made an earlier post that I've stepped Master of Puppets by Metallica, but I didn't really take the initiative to post a link to it. With that in mind, here you go:
