The Darwin songs are cool and all, but again, I still don't understand how that or the rest of the SMX songlist is going to attract new players to the game. As mentioned before in the thread, these Dancemania licenses don't make sense to me from a business perspective, because you're spending money on songs that only serve to appeal to the fanbase that you already have. IMO the money could be better spent on marketing, advertising, other licenses, commissioning artists to make new songs, in-house artists making new songs, etc. Things that can not only give the game an identity, but also attract new players to the game, increase the game's fanbase, and increase profits from having more people invested in the game.
Here's a question that I would like to be answered by the devs: what kind of measures are you taking, if any, in order to bring new players into the game? If appealing to the fanbase is somehow still financially sustainable, that's one thing, but isn't the point of owning a business also supposed to be attracting new potential customers and making more money than before?

alright alright alright fine you wanna know why all these old dancemania-adjacent licenses are in the game? because there's a bunch of operators that just bought brand spanking new stepmaniax dedicabs to replace their aging extreme cabs
smx is most definitely treating their target clientele well, they just don't happen to be you.

I stopped touching this thread because it was pointless but I am asking a genuine question in regards to that last post.
I thought this game wasn't able to be purchased by arcades/isn't for arcade use? Do you mean players who buy cabinets for personal use? Or is this a "saying the quiet part out loud" type of thing?
edit to add: I've been informed they just can't sell to the big arcades like D&B and Round 1. Leaving this post up in case it answers anyone's question.
edit to remove: I guess that's wrong too,, see the below post

Any one and any business can purchase either the All-In-One unit (no coin-op), or the Dedicated unit (coin-op). All music is licensed for worldwide use / public performance.

Also Kyle literally walked up to Konami to ask them if he could create and release this game to the public, their caveat was that he could not sell it to arcade chains such as Round 1/SEGA/etc., as far from what I remember.
I read this earlier in the thread so that's probably why tamtamino had said it, but I guess it's not true.

Uhh, I'm not sure what your point is? Why does it matter whether or not I'm a part of this target audience? I actually like a lot of the songs in the game, personally (and don't like a few songs, but that's pretty typical for any rhythm game). What's more, I'd be willing to give the game a chance if there were an arcade near me that has the game (I just don't have the money or space to buy the game outright right now). Whenever the SMX team wants to start broadening their fanbase using whatever means they choose, that's for them to decide. If they just want to keep giving content to the fans, they have every right to do so too. I just don't think sticking with the latter option is healthy for the game financially (but then again, I'm not part of the dev team and I don't know the company's financial situation right now, this is just my feedback as an outsider looking in).

Not sure where that info came from, but Konami has zero involvement, oversight, or input with StepManiaX right now. There are no purchasing restrictions anywhere in the world.

I feel like I should say there are aspects of StepManiaX that I do like -- the center panel is a cool idea, the pads look nice, I really like the UI (although I know some people have been critical of it, but I'm a sucker for polished, utilitarian stuff like this haha) and while I'm not fond of the lower-level charts I've seen, most of the Wild charts look well-designed.
I actually think overall the project is a lot more polished than In The Groove was, although ITG tbf never really got a chance to mature. I've just been annoyed that people are reacting so aggressively to songlist criticisms when in all honestly most of the arguments I've seen here are well-articulated and not combative.
Also to defend the So Deep chart, I'm not really sure how else you CAN chart that song.

I think it's because of that time Kyle Ward went to Konami. Wasn't he making sure Step Revolution was in the clear from legal action?

Same. It feels like this should be in many arcades but, at least here in Mississippi, there's no such thing lol. You can barely find an arcade here. If my local Maragritaville Resort doesn't pick one up, it feels like my only chance to play this will be to purchase one myself...which won't be happening any time soon.
