Hi.
Are there any recommendable .avi compressors that can get good quality 800x450/800x600 videos shrinked to less than 1 MB while retaining quality? I keep trying over and over again to get that result, but no luck. I have a feeling that no one's going to want to download DDRMAX4/my videos pack/other things if I can't get these videos shrinked down. And if it's not possible, is there a way to make Stepmania read video files other than .avi?

I can't help you with compressing video files, but I do know that StepMania 5 can use mp4 video. I think the only thing with that is that video sync might be off for other people.

Mm.... Yeah, I tried them on Stepmania 5 and they're laggy... but that might be because they're in HD.
On the other hand, I'd have to take the effort to reskin Th3_Ov3rHell_3XoduZ's HDDRMAX2, just as DDRMAX4 is reskined from the 3.9 theme DDRMAX2 made years ago, and I think that may be....tacky. But I don't have it in me to learn how to theme from scratch, so....

Hello friend, you could use various methods to reduce the size of the videos, reducing colors, quality, etc. As for the video codecs, I use mines in MPEG-2 the DVD format, they have worked to me in OpenItg and SM5, you could reduce the kbps of the video until you consider, that reduces a lot the final size. You could make your game in OpenItg, there's a party collection theme, and OITG has a good support and is more updated than SM3.x and is so much stable.

I usually encode videos to MPEG-4(DivX/Xvid) avi with no audio and the quality is based from their output dimension.
640x480 --> 2000 kbps
640x360 --> 2000 kbps
320x240 --> 1800 kbps
448x336 --> 1500 kbps
I know you wonder about the bitrate quality for 448x336 being lower than 320x240. Each bitrate is half of the actual bitrate from DDR AC's raw m2v files.
I use AVS Video Converter 9.1.
As for 800x450 or 800x600, your bitrate should be 2500 kbps.
