Hardest/Easiest charts per difficulty rating

I tend to hear people calling some charts a "low" or "high" # difficulty rating, obviously because some charts with a particular difficulty rating might be somewhat easier/harder than others. I'm very curious, which charts do you think are the easiest/hardest to receive a given difficulty rating?

You can mention charts from any music game series, on any difficulty scale. Please make sure to use the latest ratings for that particular scale though. For example, don't say SAKURA is the easiest 10-foot song on the pre-DDR X difficulty scale, because it was updated to a 9 later on. Also don't mix up series' or different scales, and don't even mention edits or custom simfiles that aren't officially rated by the game publisher.

You can also disagree with other people and suggest a different chart for the same rating, but please keep it civil and give a valid reason for disagreeing.

I'll start. I've heard some say PARANOiA Survivor MAX is the hardest 16-footer in the X-Scale, and that IX is the hardest 18-footer. Of course Valkyrie Dimension is the hardest 19. Which are the easiest, and what about other DDR foot ratings?

I'm sure everyone will come up with a different list (since difficulty is highly subject to opinion), which is probably what makes this thread any fun. Anyway, here's my take on this (DDR X-Scale):

Notes:
1. This is just for Singles, since I don't know double charts well enough to judge them comparatively.
2. By "hardest" I mean hardest in terms of passing difficulty, not scoring difficulty.
3. Assuming a normal life bar (as opposed to battery).
4. This is for what the charts are actually rated. I have an entirely different list for what I think should be the hardest or easiest chart for a given difficulty rating.

Below level 4, I have absolutely no idea. Everything below level 14 was really hard to pick, since I'm not even familiar with every single stepchart out there.

I really can only speak in terms of the old scale, and I also might be forgetting some things, but I personally think:
10: I think Valkyrie Dimension had an old scale rating on the Wii one? If not 888 I guess.
9: PARANOiA ~HADES~ (Horribly misrated)
8: MAX 300 (Honorable mention goes to SKA A GO GO because seriously, if you can't at least bullcrap the crossovers of , you CANNOT do two 16th streams)
7: Maybe R3 ?
Dunno about anything lower, and I also could be wrong since I haven't played everything on pad yet.

Nope, VD's only CS appearance used X-scale only. Also, Hades is actually an 8 on the SN2 scale. You can say without a doubt is a horribly-misrated 9, though!

Fascination ~eternal love mix~ is probably the most overrated 4 footer in the old scale. It's a 9 on new scale. Pluto Relinquish is also one of the easiest 5-footers I've seen in the new scale.

I'll add a few more that I thought were funny:
Pluto the First is rated an 8 on the new scale, but on Hottest Party 3, it was rated a 3.

CHAOS is just hilarious; on the new scale, it is rated an 8. On SuperNOVA-SuperNOVA2, it was a 9.

I guess I picked that one because of how easy it is to score well on it once you're proficient at the chart - my high score is 994k on it, yet there's no other 14 I'm even close to getting an AAA for. But in terms of passing difficulty, yeah, I would agree it's definitely up there.

Now that I think about it, I probably should've made separate lists for hardest/easiest songs to pass and hardest/easiest songs to score well on, since those two can vary a lot. NGO and Mei are some of the easiest 18s to pass for many, but they're insanely difficult to score really well on.

Try Anti-Matter , Shiny World , and like a bunch of others. You can probably AAA those more easily than POSSESSION . As for passing POSSESSION 's difficulty is really high.

Agreed. This is one of the reasons I stated that my list was for passing, since I can't objectively comment on a player's scoring ability on a certain song. I don't really think MEI is particularly hard for scoring (or really that easy to pass) since there are a lot of arrows overall, and the only really hard part to be accurate on are those sideways crossovers 4/5 into the song. NGO can be really annoying to score, yeah, mainly because hitting jumps don't award extra points. That, and DEAD END ("GROOVE RADAR" Special) ... yeah that one's passing and scoring and difficulties are on two totally different levels though.

Yeah, and I think "scoring well" can even be further divided into difficulty in getting a AA and difficulty in getting a AAA or PFC. When I said Mei was hard to score really well on, I was thinking of how getting up into that AAA range is impossible if you can't master the afronova crossover part, but getting a AA is doable otherwise. (By the way, is that the fastest afronova crossover stream in the game? 16ths at 200bpm...not even Valkyrie Dimension reached that, since the main part ran at 186bpm.)

Ditto with NewbStepper. For some reason, I've never beaten Possession . It's the only 14 I've played that I've been unable to complete on a dance pad.

I believe in terms of footspeed, yes, that is the fastest use of Afronova crossovers in an official chart, although there are several charts with similar patterns that come close. Thankfully, though, crossovers are composed of single arrows, and so players who are quick enough can cheese them by bracketing or double stepping really fast, so AAA rank on MEI isn't really the hardest thing ever, if I may say that. It's also how some people find Pluto Relinquish S- to be fairly simple, despite its reputation for being one of the most terrifying charts, even among 18 footers. The double chart is another story. POSSESSION , on the other hand... yeah that one is taxing on all levels.

12th note jumps. Especially toward the end. They can get really confusing the first few times you try the chart. I also found them very physically demanding. Just keep at it, you'll pull through eventually.

Actually, scratch that for Mei having the fastest afronova crossovers - doesn't Over the Period have them as quarter notes at 840bpm (= 16ths at 210bpm)?

Are they really 12ths? They're slower than the quarter notes! I think they're like...3rds? I'm not sure.

Oh yeah, you're right. I forgot about that chart's ending.

APPEND: Since you mentioned Valkyrie dimension before, I think I also want to add that the ending has an 8th Afronova crossover that ends with that famous L/D jump, at 390 BPM, and for that particular gimmick (ending with the jump), it gets really close.

3rds, haha! Yes, indeed, at 370 BPM, at least. They're equivalent to quarter note jumps at 277.5 BPM. I just call them "12th note" because they do fall on a 12th beat.
