I want to write a program that allows you to upload a song and freestyle to it for DDR/Stepmania. The program will auto correct the freestyle notes to the BPM of the song (which will be entered by the user) and save the song as a simfile. I know how to program in Java and C/C++, but I am not exactly sure how to program in this context. I also have some ideas for the logic of the code.

Cool there hasn't been a freestyle mode since Ultramix 3. This should be implemented into SM 5. I like this idea. Its been a long time since I've done C++, I probably would need a super refresher course.

No its written in LUA. A programming language that I'm not familiar with.

No, SM5 is written in C++, you could see in windows the runtime libraries (msvcp, msvcr) the lua scripting is something like an "extension" of the C++ code in the SM case, to give more flexibility and "power" to the customizing files, allowing to users create or modify some thigs without have to change the source code included in the .exe file.

6.7 months later and I realize that this idea is basically record mode in edit mode.

Well it seems that I've abused the -5 so much that it was taken away from me. I went as far as re-rating the users to the point where only banned users have the -5, but to no avail I can't get the -5 back. So I've accepted my punishment for abusing the system.
