Is there a collection of remakes of pre-superNOVA backgrounds somewhere? Or can someone make some?

That's what I do too. But I've seen some BG's on the custom BG thread of classic DDR backgrounds, so I was wondering if there's a collection or if someone will make more.

There is no collection like that and in my opinion it would be pointless to do that. I'm sure someone out there has remade a background or two, but why bother since the image will be stretched or whatever in StepMania.

"Let's Do the Rain Dance" |
From mostly the MAX-EXTREME era, a lot of the songs that made it to the ULTRAMIX 3 or 4 games/DLC with their original graphics have them enhanced for 640x480. These are the best examples:
(This one looks upscaled except for the text, which appears to be overlayed on the original)
(same as the Heaven bg)
(Pfft, the imprecise transparencies are even more plentiful than the original bg. It's worth noting that the X2-onward jacket actually corrects the issue)
(Again, just enhanced text, though it looks like the color banding has improved as well)
(You know the drill)
(Despite Ultramix 3 and Extreme 2 coming out at the same time, they have different title text for this bg (and subsequent banner))
(This one actually changes the font a bit; X2 uses a different one from both this and the original)
(Previously, this bg was only available with letterboxing (done with EXTREME to save space))
("Jungle Mix" now has a little more drop shadow to stand out)
(Oddly, when DDR Dance Wars made a new banner for this song (for some reason...), they used the original bg as a base and not this 480 version. It's clear to see the difference in quality, and also highlights that the increase in size allows the cel-shade outlines of the unicorn to stick out.)
NOTE: Though all previous DDR songs that use original graphics were in 640x480 for ULTRAMIX 3 and 4, a handful of them, primarily pre-MAX, are merely upscaled and given a slight dithering effect. There are some exceptions on both sides.
