"new phone who dis"

Last updated: 2014-07-01 09:23pm
Oops, uploaded the video to the wrong channel. Here's the new one:

I decided to make a fun contest. I play a measure of three different DDR songs on my keyboard. If you guess the name of a song, I have to make a keyboard cover of the full song, and you will be recognized in the next video. I will give you a week to guess. Good luck!

Abyss, Twilight Zone, and the Theme to The Three Stooges.

Honestly what the hell is that last one, only three measures? That could be about 150 DDR songs.

You mean only three notes. Technically six, cuz the song has 2 notes play at the same time. And the song is a well known song.

Abyss, Twilight Zone and SABER WING?

Ding ding. Winner winner. Now I have to play all three songs on the keyboard.

The three notes I played was the second measure, one second in.

What do want as your prize?

....I still can't understand how that was from SABER WING, if that's the case, FELM could have counted, along with CANDY<3, CANDY*, 321 STARS, and a few songs.

Well here's the thing. I said I would play a measure. Saber Wing has 3/4 time signature, which means each measure has 3 1/4 notes. If I had played any of the others. I would have played more notes. So, yeah.

I recommend playing phrases instead of measures to give people a better chance of guessing the songs.

Other approaches would be to play a segment in a different key or to play bass/harmony only.

If you want me to do it again, I will try that. But for now, I have to play it on the keyboard. I am going to play each instrument separately, and edit them together. It will take a decent amount of time. I can do another contest just for fun if you want?

I really like the idea of this thread. I just wish there was a better way for you to present the songs you play on keyboard. Maybe instead of playing just single measures, you could prepare a phrase ahead of time and maybe add some bass and other elements to the music to make it more recognizable. I also like silenttype's idea of playing in a different key and seeing if anyone recognizes it.

Another one of these would be fun, but a contest might not be necessary. I think this could be a lot of fun as a simple game.

Well I'll do more of these. I had lots of fun doing it. Now I used MIDIs to know the notes to the songs, but the newer songs don't have MIDIs. So I will have to find the right notes for those. Now about the "more recognizable" part. The point of the game is to guess the song with little notes. Its not to see if you know the song's name by hearing the song. But I am thinking of doing different instruments of the song other than the melody. Well the next time I do it, it will be more fun. Stay tuned. Thread over.
