Since it was impossible to navigate through the PC to deposit a pokemon, it was safer to obtain the Lapras since they had an open slot. On the other hand, while Eevee sounds like a safe bet, it means that they also have to gamble in selecting a Water Stone from the shop. They wound up getting a Fire Stone. It also doesn't help that Vaporeon would be dead weight until level 31 when it learns water gun.

I would not be surprised if by some miracle, twitch actually beats the Elite Four and Gary to beat the game.
I also think that due to just the amount of content people are creating out of this event, I have a feeling twitch is going to become not just a place to view online matches/gamers play games, but it will turn in itself as a place to play games with over 50 or 100 thousand people.
And I am calling it now, some game developer is going to create an online 'single-player' game that pretty much mimicks what is happening here, and soon enough others will follow, and we pretty much get this year's sort of 'breakthrough' gaming phenomenon.
