"ITG, The Best Dance Machine!" |
Last updated: 2013-12-29 03:11pm
Hello, I have finished a new Version of my Theme "Simply Arrow", theme originally inspired on "Simply Love" by hurtpiggypig and Mad Matt and for OpenITG and Stepmania 3.95. The idea of this Theme is create a similar version of that Theme for Users of Stepmania 5 (like me)... Well in this new version I have made some changes.
###########################################################################################
SIMPLY ARROW r2.5 | Theme made in Version 5 Beta 1 | Final Version
This new Revision is more closer in aspect with the "SIMPLY LOVE" Theme, it has some changes and look better than the first one, If you find anything wrong, please notice me. This Revision is recommended that the previous one!
###########################################################################################
New Changes:
- The Main Font has been edited.
- The Song Name appear over the Song Progress bar.
- Some Minor bugs Fixed
- Now when plays as Player 2, the Song Progress bar appear correctly.
- Added the Edit Song option on the ScreenTitleMenu now.
- On the ScreenSelectMusic the MusicWheel has beed resized like (SIMPLY LOVE) and the % Score and Grade has been moved.
- On the ScreenEvaluation, now when just 1P plays, appear just his/her results side* instead the both before (See Screenshots for example).
###########################################################################################
NOTE: This Theme is optimized for 1920x1080, but you can use any other resolution, is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED change the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 for the BEST RESULTS!
###########################################################################################
DOWNLOAD (from MEGA):
https://mega.co.nz/#!0oxwRTyS!fTIDWzvvagE4Y4HcyZqgnwbER78LymsIKvtNPofCvCs
###########################################################################################
Some Screenshots:

###########################################################################################
* When someone before played as P1 or P2 always on the ScreenEvaluation appeared the two sides, and now if you play as P1 or P2 in single mode... appears only the corresponding side.

"WARNING! Dumb questions ahead" |
This theme makes me want to go play retro games
Seriously, that should explain the amazingness (if that's a word) of this theme
5 stars out of 5
20 feet out of 20
That's all I'm gonna say after playing for 5 minutes

This is a great theme! It has a consistent look and feel throughout and it's definitely quite usable and stable.
Since I am also working on making an SM5 theme, I can appreciate all the long hours you've almost certainly put into making this.
It's unfortunate that SIPMLY ARROW only really works in 16:9 aspect ratio (as you point out in your original post). Have you considered adding support for 4:3? It's not necessarily difficult, it would just take time to build in the use of a helper function.
For example, in AJ 187's Moonlight theme for SM5, in /Moonlight/Scripts/03 WidescreenHelpers.lua, there is a WideScale() helper function.
It can be called from any .lua file or from Metrics.ini like...
or
Anyway, that's just something to consider. There is likely a better method of handling the problem of multiple aspect ratios anyway...
Your ScreenEvaluation looks especially good! So good, in fact, that I might look at the Lua you used (for the life graph/histogram in particular) and incorporate it in my theme. Is this okay? If I ever get around to releasing my theme publicly, I'll credit you for that, and link people to this thread.

WideScale should be available in Themes/_fallback/Scripts/02 Utilities.lua, so you shouldn't need to copy it. but yeah, that's the thing you use to make it work. it may take a bit of playing around with the values (and refreshing the metrics if needed).

Well thanks you a lot for your comment and is great that you like my theme, well I know that my theme has issues with differents aspect ratios like 4:3, etc... The problem for me at least is that really I haven't knowledge in lua coding and just I know the basic codes like SCREEN_CENTER_X/Y, MAXWIDTH, and multiples others but for example in lua coding I really dont have so much...
Of course I will try to fix that problem and at least make the theme full playable in aspect ratio 4:3.... If someone can fix that problem... is-FREE-TO-DO on my theme and that would be awesome
and the other point, if you wanna use something of my theme for make yours... go ahead... and I would like to see your themes.... Thanks again XD

I didn't know that! I was also entirely unsure as to whether using the WideScale() function was the "proper" way to handle multiple aspect ratios. Thanks, AJ.

The other font style looked better though
And, Imo, the space for the song title, subtitle and author is a bit too small.
Other than that, epic theme man
By the way, which scoring system do you use for percentage?

You should stick with SM scores too, it kinda confuses me when you mix ITG with SM, I'm never sure when do I get an AA or an A on the SMO server.

First, thanks again for all comments XD... Well about the Scoring Type... All first must activate the Percentage Scoring on the Options... Then,
Go to --> Preferences.ini file (located on %appdata%/Stepmania 5/Save/(Here)
and you have to find this section and replace it... this is the same used on In The Groove also if you miss an arrow you lost score (like ITG)...
PercentScoreWeightHeld=5
PercentScoreWeightHitMine=-6
PercentScoreWeightLetGo=0
PercentScoreWeightMiss=-12
PercentScoreWeightW1=5
PercentScoreWeightW2=4
PercentScoreWeightW3=2
PercentScoreWeightW4=0
PercentScoreWeightW5=-6
PercentageScoring=1
Replace that and save, you have to do this before start Stepmania... any other question.. just ask

Oh yeah, By the way, when I play songs with rates, the rate doesn't appear at the evaluation screen..
The title doesn't appear either.

By the way, this isn't the finished version yet is it?
Also, it would be neat if, when you play a song with rates, like 1.2, it would calculate the BPM on 1.2 rate and put it on the game screen, instead of the original BPM.
Like on that screenshot of mine, playing Almace. It should appear something around 206, not 172
The title doesn't appear either.

Exactly this is not the finished version, I have added to the name shows over the banner on Screen Evaluation, also with the Songs Options like Rate, etc...
The sad part I guess, that is something that I really would like to do... the BPM doesn't calculate by itself when uses Rate Mod, again... I know that for that, I need a LUA Coding, and I dont know nothing about that....
I would like to request, If here or someone has a excellent knowledge about LUA Coding and can do these thing for make my theme better and better... I of course I will credit you on the Credit Screen as contributor... so,
The next update will add Song Name over the Banner on Screen Evaluation, already done.
The SongOptions (like Rate, etc)... will show on Screen Evaluation, already dony.
=== Others things about my theme you find guys and could be better, please tell me, this help for make my theme better Thanks XD

Is there any way to change the combo style or to make it not appear? Because it's really distracting on fast streams, it keeps flashing really fast..

Excellent job here overhell. I am getting a lot of messages here and there but, ignoring those, this is great. I do have a few issues with it but, their all mostly preferences of mine. (ex: The notes are a bit too far left for me on player 1 during gameplay. That is an easy fix but, I am just gonna leave it alone for now.)

I would love to use this theme, but the mega download links are now dead it seems.
