Hello dudes~
I recently bought adedicated DDR Supernova machine with "hardware failure" due to the system not booting up at start. Looked the machine over after buying it and found the PS2 held no boot disc. Thus, I believe I made a good buy, however I do not have a boot disc to test out the machine. Does anyone know anyone that is interested in selling their Supernova boot disc for the Python 2 system or any good dealers that sell this disc? I contacted Betson, ChannelBeat, and CoinOpExpress.
I was planning on converting the machine over to OpenITG that's why I was interested in a broken machine. I still am, but currently would like it to work and then convert it--due to storage reasons.
Any information is welcome~

The boot disc will do you no good 99% of the time. usually when the Python 2 fails its because the HDD has died and sadly its not a simple "swap with another HDD" ordeal. Your Python 2 is most likely a giant paperweight sadly
The only reason the SuperNOVA disc would ever come in handy is if something gets corrupted, which I have never heard or see happen.
You can either find another SuperNOVA/SuperNOVA2 kit, use different hardware or send the Python 2 back to Betson to fix. Its is VERY expensive though, about $1,000USD. Sounds like you want to convert it to something else anyways so I would honestly just worry about doing that now, it will be the cheapest solution to get at least something running on the machine.

Gotcha, thank you for the information! I wanted to get the machine running on Supernova since it's currently in an arcade's basement, which doesn't have great storing conditions or real room to work. [ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BOvuaSjCYAAxAXV.jpg ] If I got it working I could have it on the arcade floor and convert it when I got the chance to. Since it sounds like the chances are low that I will be able to get this thing working as Supernova I am going to just converted to OpenITG, OpenITG runs better on my system than Stepmania. Just bought the J-PAC for it... Doesn't look like I am going to be able to get a kit or disc either. CoinOpExpress and Betson said they don't have either. Betson can only repair the unit, like you said.
Thank you~
Thank you~

Supernova theme isn't even accurate. Considering I haven't played Supernova AC since 2009... good luck.

This is honestly one of your best options. The only downside to this is you will not get lighting controlled on the cabinet, so if your not worried about that then go for it. You could also run a 573 in it from ebay if you want. You just need to undo the EXT-I/O and any wiring adapters it used to connect everything and you would honestly be all set. I for one like running official games so I would go the 573 route.Thank you~
Also if you don't want that Python 2 and EXT-I/O (and never plan to fix the kit) sell it to someone that could use it like me.

They are not touching the sensors and no other place to leave them since this basement floods all the time, thus the reason I want it out of the basement.Quote: Kon

I am going to try to get it up and running. I paid extra to keep the inside of the machine so I am going to try. However, if I can't get it going, I will know who to contact.

The system uses a USB I/O so putting either disc inside will not work as far as controls goes. Its also a Japanese region console so it won't even boot the games even if you wanted it to in its current state.
The sync out of range means it is getting a frequency that is too high or low OR the resolution is too high (you need 640x480). In your case it is likely too high, VGA runs at 31khz while CGA uses 15khz and that is where you need to be for the factory arcade monitor. To do this download soft15khz on the computer you want to use so you can have output at 15khz instead of 31khz.
Also a system 573 is the hardware used to run 1st mix through DDR EXTREME. I believe there is one on ebay complete with a flash card for about $300, which is about the normal going rate now a days for those in working and complete condition.

Okay~ Awesome! The monitor converter kit will be able to convert that for me. Might have something on screen after doing that, don't know...The sync out of range means it is getting a frequency that is too high or low OR the resolution is too high (you need 640x480). Gotcha. I don't think that is what I am looking for. I have heard of a Stepmania to DDR light board somewhere on the internet. I have seen a few people show it off on their machines in videos, but have no idea what it is called.

I did! He has another Supernova machine, but I am not sure how much that one is going for or its condition. I ended up buying it for $1000. Shaved off $400 for the monitor since I did not want a CRT with the system. Mine's water damaged, but over all still good otherwise.

You are probably talking about the I-Pac conversion for the lights. If you are not tech savvy and know how to re-wire things I do not suggest doing this though. The other alternative is to buy a minimaid but I believe they are no longer being sold and no one ever sells them.

Yeah, the minimaid is what I was thinking of. I have heard some things about using parallel ports, maybe might check into that when I get the game going. I own two I-Pacs for a mame project, but I would not know how to get it to emulate the lights in DDR.Post #15 · Posted at 2013-07-12 09:44:56am 11.8 years ago

Either replacing the screen with an lcd and have my ps2....... that was my 2nd option if using a emulator (was thinking mame or stepmania) If you already got the HDD working.... I'll help with the lights... It was a pain in the ass though. Had to wire it, replace the lights... Well, good luck. Hope it helped.

I am already putting in a new screen, however unless you have a modified Japanese Ps2 I don't think that will work. This is going into an arcade so I can't have it running a home version of Supernova if that is what you are thinking.Help with the lights how though? I don't think I am going to be doing a complete rewiring job on the cabinet when there are other solutions.

I don't know if 2DXFTW is talking out of his ass or what but you can't use MAME to play DDR. System 573 hasn't been emulated for use in MAME yet because of the digital I/O giving developers problems coding/decoding how it is used. Its going to probably be a while before someone steps in and has it functioning 100% in MAME.

it's a longshot but you could try contacting the poster on bemanistyle who makes the boards kon was referring to above (the minimaid). here's the thread about them: http://www.bemanistyle.com/forum/showthread.php?301-Stepmania-and-oITG-adapter-for-your-DDR-Arcade-machine-Minimaid-USB-IO
as of early june he had sold all of the pre-ordered boards except for one, so you could ask him if that one is still available even though it's unlikely. otherwise it's possible that he might make more eventually but that won't help you in the near term.
where is the arcade where this machine will be located once you get it up and running?
