I'm sure if you are interested in Mega Man at all you have heard about the upcoming crossover Mega Man X Street Fighter and probably the controversy over it being originally planned as a fan game, and now being backed by Capcom. Well, either way you feel on the subject, if you are wanting a new breath for the series before it dies off completely, downloading the free game and giving it a shot is our last chance.
http://www.rockman-corner.com/2012/12/capcom-will-watch-street-fighter-x-mega.html

If we get 1 Million downloads, which is the bench mark set by Christian Svensson, then he will have hard evidence that the series has the ability to live strong. Being a free game, he believes that the quota should be easily reached. The one big worry is advertisement, and that's why I believe that every gaming forum should have a thread at least notifying its members of the game, that it is free, and even if you think the idea is a cop out by Capcom because they are a horrible company (they are), this isn't about that. This is about Mega Man living to see another day. Do it for the blue bomber, keep his series going strong!

I honestly don't think Capcom gives a crap about Mega Man, especially after they released those crappy as hell iOS games, not releasing any type of Mega Man on UMvC3 and putting stupid DLC costumes instead, and canceling Legends 3, the MMO, and Universe.

As a fan of the series, I wouldn't want to play a Mega Man game that isn't created by Inafune, unless it's REALLY REALLY good.

I think we've exhausted MegaMan as much as possible, there's no need for another one.

As an avid Mega Man fan, I welcome this. I would mainly like to see a Classic Mega Man title that ends the Classic series and officially bridges the gap between it and the X series, but I'm sure this will be entertaining.

I'm OK with new MegaMan, even if the game is created by a fan rather than Inafune (does people seriously care about this? As long as the game is good, who created it shouldn't be important).

Yes, I'm aware this is not Legends 3 nor Universe, but it looks like classic MegaMan action, which is lots of fun. Looking forward to this.

(also Capcom said that they'll be announcing something else on December 17th...)

Just a heads up, it is out now. Free to download, but I believe you need a Capcom Unity account, but I could be wrong.

You don't. I'm downloading it now.

And the December 17th announcement was MM1-6 on the 3DS VC, and there is more to come.

Update- The damn game doesn't even work. I run it and it switches from 32-bit to 16-bit color, the only keys from my keyboard it recognizes are enter (start), F4 (change screen size) and esc (close game). Judging by the comments on the game page, I'm not the only one. I'm pretty disgruntled. I've barely been able to contain my excitement and now its here just mocking me.

It turns out the no input bug is caused by certain controllers, but its mind boggling that they didn't test it with PS3 and 360 controllers considering those would have to be some of the most commonly owned controllers, especially considering the target audience isn't actually PC gamers for this one. Also weird that they advertise built in 360 pad functionality but plenty of people get the no input bug when theirs is plugged in.

The work around is to start the game with the controller unplugged and then plug in. The game won't recognize it if it isn't plugged in before starting, so PS3 pad users need Motioninjoy's DS3tools which are required to use the controller in the first place, but also have built in key spoofing functionality (similar to joy2key or xpadder) and anyone else with the issue can use joy2key or xpadder.

The game is pretty good, the music is awesome and it just feels right.

Akuma is a hidden boss, some people are saying you need to perfect the 8 bosses to fight him, others are reporting only 3. SF2, SFA2 and SF4 only required 3, but apparently someone tried it with 3 and didn't get to fight him.

At the title screen hold shoot and press R R R L, helmetless Mega Man

In the pause menu hold jump and press U D D D, Guile's Theme will play.

The game actually worked flawlessly for me. I think there is an added requirement of having to not use continues to get to Akuma.
I loved the game, but It was to short, IMO. I was also hoping for a more larger than life final boss, not just what it was. The game was pretty freaking good though, and some stages (C. Viper, Urien, Balrog, Vega,)
I also dislike how there is only really one wily stage. Balrogs "Stage" was neat, but barely counts. Vega's was awesome, but where was Sagat? Even just one more would have felt ok, since that was the three extra guys from SFII, but just including 2, with one being so short, felt weird.

Sagat left Shadaloo in SFA3. All of his SF2 endings were changed in versions after SFA3 to reflect this as SF2 takes place after the SFA series. Thats Capcom's excuse for being lazy anyway, he isn't Shadaloo so he isn't in the boss fights. Never mind that he is the series first boss character, he gets excluded entirely. Its bull shit and any Street Fighter fan should be pissed that he isn't there. If it wasn't for Sagat this series would be nothing, the entire series hinges around Sagat beating Ryu at the first tournament and mistaking the Satsui no Hadou in Ryu for a sucker punch. If Sagat never beats Ryu, he never gives into the Satsui no Hadou for that split second and Metsu Shoryukens Sagat. If he doesn't do that, Akuma never picks up on his energy to track him down and Bison never tries to use him to harness his power for the psycho drive. If Akuma never goes after Ryu then Gouken never comes out of hibernation and Oro never trains Ryu. Ken never tries to match Ryu's rapidly increasing strength and never becomes dedicated enough to open his own dojo. What are you left with? Guile and Ken having brother in law bar-b-ques with Eliza and Jane and Birdy as Bison's right hand man as Chun Li tries to take down Shadaloo. Street Fighter is NOTHING without Sagat.

</rant>

And yes, Vega's stage is one of the best in the series. I really liked the original take on the Balrog fight too, it was pretty original and I like that you HAVE to out run him or you lose. I raged like a mother fucker the first time though not knowing to slide to the e-tank before you teleport out though.

YES. Megaman X was excellent. Though... They really shouldn't have continued the series after X5 as it was reported to be the supposed last one.
