Just cannot pass this song (the 14 foot difficulty one). By the time I hit the ending bit my feet aren't going where I want them to and I fail miserably. Part of the problem is that the mat shifts over the course of the song so it's really frustrating.
Agh I suck at DDR.
Help?

Keep practicing. Also, try other 14s...and stay hydrated! This advice can apply to pretty much any song you're stuck on and I'm sure there are quite a few other similar threads about being stuck on songs in DDR.
Fire Fire is so much fun, though! I hope you can pass it eventually!

Keep playing.
Eventually you will pass it. No need to hate the song because you can't do the heavy chart.

If the pad is shifting, clearly it's not your fault. If you're making it to the end, then you're actually doing well, just find a way to keep the mat from moving and you got this!

I have had the same problem with PARANOIA SURVIVOR (which is a 15 now). A little duct tape and some heavy material should help.
-FIRE FIRE is a hard 14. You can probably do other 14's pretty well.
-As KNS said, it's not your fault when the pad is doing a bad job. As I said, try taping it to something heavy and hard so it doesn't shift away.
-If you are playing with a Softpad, I can imagine you play No Bar. Get a chair, a couch, anything with the correct height for you.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice guys. Tried it again yesterday three times before my feet and I gave up.
It sucks because I actually like this song, it's so catchy. I've also been working on Cartoon Heroes........

I've tried using a chair as a bar ages ago but it feels really weird and my arms get tired, even in arcades the bar seems to limit my movement. Maybe I should do weights. >_> Placed a heavy box behind the soft pad and it didn't have anywhere to go.

Mirror can make a few sections very slightly easier depending on whether you are naturally dominant in your left or right foot. (Usually if you're right-handed, your right foot is dominant and vice versa, although I have seen the reverse.)
For example, if you have a fast 16th burst of LUD, then your left foot has to make two steps very quickly. On Mirror, this becomes RDU, so now the foot that has to move fast is the right foot. If your right foot is dominant, this section will become easier on Mirror.

Interesting, how will this help?Honestly, keep practicing and you will eventually get the song down. If my memory is correct, DDR II SHOULD have a practice mode where you can slow down the bit you are having trouble in so you can see how you can maneuver around it and the such.
Also, soft pads pretty much kill the motivation to even pass the really hard songs in DDR II. The only manner you can pass 15's and higher is to get a foam or metal pad. It would be impressive to pass an 18 on a soft pad, and it has been done, but it's still a pain to keep it steady after an onslaught of arrows.
And welcome to the site

Interesting, how will this help?Enabling Mirror can make hitting certain patterns easier. Also it makes it less boring if you're playing the same song over and over again.
... I should use Mirror more.

Hmm, I'm probably weird but I have reservations about counting it as a "proper pass" if I had Mirror on and I'd still be frustrated at not being able to pass it normally! D: And I never really thought about it before I came here, but I definitely find some patterns easier because of my right foot dominance.
Thanks!
This sure feels like the only DDR site that's alive still.

Update - I barely passed it (with a chair)!
Played it like 3 times before I managed it. Now I guess I'm going to work on it more so it feels like less of a flukish pass.

At least with Fire Fire, the length of the song (2:07 I think?) IMO is what makes it hard. I had a similar love-hate relationship with Love is Dreaminess which is another 2min+ song. I would start with shorter songs that are stamina heavy like exotic ethnic, So Deep or CSFILSM and then move onto the longer ones that are just as stamina-draining.

If you want practice on DDR charts that have 16th runs in them at the 130-180 BPM range, I'd suggest the following:
1. konoko no oiwaini no nanatsu (DDR SN2)
2. Drop Out
3. Drop Out Megamix
4. Fantasy (Melissa)
5. Stay (DDRMAX)
6. DoLL
7. Xepher

Xepher and Drop Out NSMM are perfect for practice.

Tried Xepher
yesterday just once. It's really fast, made FIRE FIRE look easy. .__.;; I love that song though.
YES. I think 1:40 songs aren't as bad, but when it hits 2+ mins I just fall over and die.

is one of my favorites. How far did you get on it? Or, did you pass that?

Nah, no way I can pass that so easily. XD I only made it past the intro and the first verse.

And so far, did you tried again Cartoon Heroes ? That's really a solid 9 old scale, no worry if you have troubles on it (especialy on soft pads)

Oh I just played Cartoon Heroes today. It's really hard becase the foot patterns seem awkward. I don't think I'll be passing it anytime soon, or Xepher

Don't get so down on yourself. All you gotta do is keep praticing. Analyze the chart, see how you can make each pattern work best for you. Take it one part at a time and eventually you'll be able to put it all together.
