"you're so unbelievable!" |
Hi,
I've been playing DDR for a little more than a year, and eventually decided to buy a soft dancepad to use with StepMania/DDR for PS2 (going to arcade depletes my pocket really fast
). The problem is, I can currently play 7-8s (old DDR scale, can pass some 12-14s on a DDR X2 dedicab albeit with awful score), but I can't pass even
/
songs in home with my dance pad
(even if I managed to pass some songs, I got D, or at most C). Is there any way to improve home-playing skill, other than modding the softpad?

soft pads require different play styles to hard pads, generally you have to step far wider than hard pads because of the sensors and foam. I don't think it's really possible to improve on them much without at least encasing the dang things in plastic sheet or sticking it to hard board or something.

What exactly is making things difficult? For that big of a difference in results, there has to be something big making a difference, such as the pad sliding/deforming, not knowing where the arrows are (I felt the arcade pad was smaller the one time I played at one), lack of a bar, etc. Also, the TV could possibly be contributing to making timing more difficult in some cases as well, especially if it's an LCD and/or HD TV (though it probably is not the biggest problem).

I cleared some 15's on PS2 DDR's with only an almost rubber-like sheet (I don't know what it actually is) under the left and right arrows, which barely helped. I believe I was clearing 12's and 13's before I was even using that (and maybe a 14 or two, but they weren't common then), so it's possible to be decent on a soft pad without keeping it in place.Post #4 · Posted at 2012-08-24 06:15:42am 12.8 years ago
Im the exact opposite of most around here, I grew with a soft pad so I tend to do wayy better at home than arcades. Also one little thing is be aware of where your playing (well pretty much anything that isnt carpet is fine). Where I used to live I had hardwood floors and it would help from keeping the pad from flying all over the place but I just moved into a little condo and well we got carpet floors and it prevents me from playing.

i assume 15's means ddr x scale, so like max 300 range?
If so yeah it's possible. I can do xepher oni on soft pads, and I think I managed healing dvision too. But ITG 15's, lol good luck.
