The LUA-based scoring in SM5 a2 seems off, in particular with SN2 scoring. The score will bounce around, occasionally going down when hitting some steps and then zooming back up. And, whereas SN2 scoring is supposed to top out at 1 million points, I frequently got higher than that, one time scoring 2.5 million for a song on Basic. Is this something wrong with the scoring script (which I haven't touched) or the program itself?

SM5 A3 removed scoring options now, back to EXTREME scoring mode.

In the meantime, rolling back to alpha1 fixed that particular issue.

i still have SM nightly build no. 291 (after SM5 A1) that I believe the last build with stable scoring before they fucked up.

From my observation this is due to a glitch that the dev team is currently fixing according to the bug tracker on the website. It's due to a problem with the Lua for UserPrefsScoringType.

Harsh words for someone who isn't working on the project which happens to be completely open source.

Ok. I was just wondering, since I have been using Stepmania 5 for a while, why there is no N.G. on the result screen like on SN2 or X. Are there theme's that would show the # of N.G.s you got out of the total prior to the # O.K. results?

Stepmania is not DDR.
While one particular mode of Stepmania allows you simulate a DDR-like experience ("4-panel" or "dance" mode), the overall program is not limited or hardcoded to being a DDR clone. That would, in my opinion, be strikingly unoriginal in vision and small-minded in scope.

These are (at least) two themes currently that will indicate how many hold notes were not successfully held at the results screen:
AJ187's moonlight theme
AJ 187's port of the ITG3 theme

with the waiei theme you can choose what type of scoring you prefer (Supernova, EXTREME, DDR, etc)Post #31 · Posted at 2012-11-02 12:10:03am 11.5 years ago

the gameplay don't actually generates player scores set from scoring modes in that theme, as evidenced by 2 blocked lines of codes in BGAnimations/ScreenGameplay decorations default metrics. What they do is they convert scores in Evaluation Stage screen based from judgment scores got, but don't store these converted scores to highscore list.

I'm using SM5 Alpha 1, and I was working on a Chart... However, when I went to edit it again,
The steps Disappeared.... But when I checked the .sm file, all the steps were shown.... the .sm file is on my skydrive here:
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=4D982C4239A4992F!276&authkey=!AMMn2DjNcvaLw60
So I'm wondering:
Is this a Bug caused by A1? Or was there some sort of error loading or saving it?

That's because it's saving data all over the place. Find your installation folder and do this:
http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=5172
Then take your .sm file from SkyDrive and put where you'd expect it to be. Now it should load correctly.
Upgrading to alpha 3 would also help.
