Has anyone been able to modify Beware's DDR Extreme to have 2.5x speed mod? I'm trying, but not having success. I usually just have to add a line to Metrics.ini and English.ini, but it doesn't seem to be working properly in Beware's Extreme.
Here's what options section in my metrics.ini looks like:
[ScreenOptionsMaster]
# Player options
Speed=8
SpeedDefault=mod,1x
Speed,1=mod,1x;name,x1
Speed,2=mod,1.5x;name,x1.5
Speed,3=mod,2x;name,x2
Speed,4=mod,2.5x;name,x2.5
Speed,5=mod,3x;name,x3
Speed,6=mod,4x;name,x4
Speed,7=mod,5x;name,x5
Speed,8=mod,8x;name,x8
And here's the options section of the english.ini file:
[OptionNames]
Solo=SOLO
Note=NOTE
0.25x=x0.25
0.50x=x0.50
0.75x=x0.75
1x=x1
1.5x=x1.5
2x=x2
2.5x=x2.5
3x=x3
4x=x4
5x=x5
8x=x8
C200=C200
C400=C400
C500=C500
C600=C600
C800=C800
UPDATE:
Figured it out. I was modifying the English.ini in Beware's theme and it wasn't working. I added 2.5x=x2.5 to the default theme's english.ini and now it's working.
UPDATE 2:
So, I added 2.5X and 4X speed mods to this and it is functionally working fine. However, the icon on the mod screen is different from the other speed mods because there is no graphic for them. So, I went into "Beware's DDR Extreme\Themes\DDRextreme_beware\Graphics" and made two new graphics files that are based on copies of the original files. I took 1.5X and did a after some Photoshop work, saved it as a new PNG. I did this for 2.5x and 4x mods (the two I added). I saved them and named them in the same pattern as the other OptionIcon PNGs. Now, I didn't expect this to work, but the interesting thing is that when I loaded the game, it auto-recognized the 4x mod and the graphic is working great. However, the 2.5x mod graphic is not loading correctly.
I'm sure that somewhere in this theme there's a line of code that tells SM which graphic to load for each speed mod, but I have no idea where this is. Is there anyone who could help tell me where I can modify the necessary code to get this graphic to show up properly?
In summary: What file controls where SM looks to load the OptionIcons? Example: OptionIcon option 2X.png

Is there any way to play this in a higher resolution and my second question is, is "Versus" mode able to use, it's greyed out for me?

1) AFAIK, SM 3.9 cannot go to higher resolutions beyond 800×600.
2) For Versus play, you'll need an active second controller and must insert at least 2 credits (unless Joint Premium or Free Play is turned on). You can re-map the Player 2 controls to another part of the keyboard or plug in a second pad controller.

Does anyone know how to get all the songs to showing up on the main music select screen? I noticed some songs like Nori Nori Nori, My Sweet Darling and others are only viewable if you sort by letter/genre/etc. On the arcade version of DDR Extreme these songs showed up on the Main Music wheel once unlocked. (right?)
I turned hidden songs on in the options menu and that didn't seem to make a difference.
Any thoughts?

Nope that's the correct behavior. They were always unlocked from the start but were only accessible outside the default sort. There was only like 40 songs on the default song wheel, all the unlocks do appear in there though but almost all of the revivals are only accessible under sorting options.

Okay. I guess it has been so long since I played Extreme that I didn't remember this. Thanks.

Hi. Is this project still going? I've made several additional mods to make it more arcade accurate, but I just wasn't sure if I should send the updates to beware, assuming he's still working on it, or just post what I have here as a new "unofficial" revision.

I've uploaded it to my google drive.
<outdated link removed>
The updated source code can be found in the src directory. You can probably diff it to what you have, but there are quite a bit of changes. So, I could probably generate a patch against r3, if needed. One thing to note is that I moved some of the song folders around. For instance, the ex01 folder is now 1st Mix instead of DDREX. This was done so that 1st Mix would be the default when changing to the series/group sort while the cursor is on Random or Roulette like in the arcade.
If you have any questions about the code changes, please let me know.
Here are the list of changes since r3 beta 1:
Added missing charts.
- Maximum Overdrive
- Trip Machine Survivor
Fixed a few charts.
- B4U Single
- Candy (star) Double
- Captain Jack Single
- Captain Jack Single
- celebrate Single
- celebrate Double
- celebrate Double
- Drop Out (oni) Double
- Orion .78 AMeuro Double
- Share My Love Double
- Superstar (oni) Double
Removed hidden challenge charts (Dam Dariram, Love Shine, etc)
Turn mods other than Mirror are now disabled in Double mode.
Fixed a few more sample starts.
Improved Groove Radar algorithms and display.
Groove Radar is disabled on Beginner mode.
- This "feature" can be disabled in the metrics (set NoBeginnerValues to 0).
BPM display on Select Music is now more accurate.
BPM sort has been improved.
- Ties are broken by song title.
- Spinning BPM songs (TLOM and DDR) now placed at the end.
Group/Series sort now defaults to 1st Mix instead of Extreme.
Extra Stage can be accessed with AA-ing any Heavy/Challenge chart on Final Stage.
- Previous versions also required the final stage song to be at least an 8 footer.
The Evaluation screen will now show the last 5 stages rather than the last 3.
In Nonstop mode, the "blue" courses can now have Challenge-only songs (the Max2 oni remixes).
In Challenge mode, the timer stops during transition from one song to the next.
The "back out of course" bug has been fixed.
Few additional course improvements.
- Glowing 10s (TLOM and PSM) now glow in the course listings.
- Foot rating display is now more accurate.
- Tweening effects (when changing course or difficulty) are now more accurate.
- Course descriptions are now displayed.
- Announcer now says "It's Showtime" instead of "Select Music".
Few other minor tweaks here and there.

can you provide a source diff vs my r3 beta version?
also, yours would not be a "r4", but a later r3 update/patch (r1, r2, and r3 are basically redos from scratch)

@gzy Do you intend on also adding some of the missing video permutations (reverses for sun3, timer1, wheel2, ribbon1, dance10, numbers3, and a few more)? Sure they may not matter as much as most of the other features you added/fixed (including getting rid of that screwed up DROP OUT oni doubles chart), but... accuracy is always good. Right?

Ah, I didn't realize each revision was a redo. In any case, I assume you will release the actual revision, which I guess would be r3 beta 2? In any case, I will try to get you source diffs. Do you want file-by-file or just a single patch with everything in it?
CuzcoBlocko, unfortunately I do not know how to rip videos from either the PS2 disc or the arcade data. I'm sure I could probably find out how to do so, but I'd figure I'd leave that to someone else who might be more knowledgeable than me on the subject.

Maybe I should mention the ff. stuff but i feel like i'm nitpicking but whatever.
-faster movement of the hidden bpms of legend of max and ddr.
-3d effect of cd titles
-songs with dynamic bpms don't start at their slowest bpm in the song wheel. Also, the stop on its slowest and fastest bpm is shorter in the arcades.
-include max2 oni charts in players best, random dancemania, bemani, caprice and all
-the drop down collapse animation of songs in nonstop and oni mode, the basis of the oni glitch.
-the two Fantasy songs have [DDR MAX] and [DDR MAX2] beside their titles in the credits
If you're into attention to detail, then i guess i should mention those. If its not needed, then that's okay, too. Oh and I'm not sure but Kiss Kiss Kiss Single and Irresistiblement Double may need fixing?

I brought this up quiet a few years back and wonder if anyone remembers this before the unlock codes were eventually rolled out.
Paranoia survivor max has special conditions to be played if it hasn't been unlocked in the arcade.
To play on final stage with 3 songs enabled, you play paranoia rebirth and paranoia evolution, AAing them both to play PSM on final stage.
With 4 stages, its Paranoia kcet, Paranoia Rebirth and Paranoia Evolution, AAing them to play PSM on final.
It would only be coded in to be arcade accurate but doesn't effect gameplay.

Details I've noticed.
-When you sort the song or go back to the song in sort mode, the preview replays.
-Samples are lower quality than they are in gameplay.
-Announcer and Crowd cues in ScreenGameplay look at this for EX:
-EDIT data selection in song wheel..
-SONG WHEEL is more smoother and a little slower than the STEPMANIA songwheel, same with sorting.
-Selecting a song and the previews play immediately or over some samples.
-Holding down options and the confirm sound doesn't play....
In ScreenGameplay graphics goes into a lower quality...

One thing I've noticed:
If you add any song into the theme, the / Character is missing on the artist line on the songwheel, along with any special characters on song titles: ( , ), - , *, etc.
