I think DDRA20plus is the worst mix since DDRX. I know it's very difficult to release a mix in the middle of a pandemic but this would have been the perfect opportunity to just rehash a bunch of older stuff.
DDR X is FAR worse than any modern DDR mix, every mix that proceeded and came after X is better than X. And the game sorely needed new artists and DDR A20+ is a breath of fresh air compared to X, X was horrible. We need to stop clinging onto nostalgia and embrace change, which DDR desperately needed. At least they're bringing in fresh faces compared with rehashing old stuff. You want nostalgia? Go play StepmaniaX because at least they're bringing back nostalgic charm. You want rehashing old stuff, there ya go.

The only rehash I want is "Waka Laka." For how much it slaps, it hasn't seen many releases.

Waka Laka is actually in StepmaniaX. Honestly, if/when DDR does the whole revival thing, I doubt they'll even come close to the quality of picks that game has had. I can't believe some people actually got excited when Make a Jam came back.
I'm of two minds when it comes to A20+. I think the gold theme is a lot worse than the blue/regular A theme, but I think the quality of music may be slightly better. It's still a decent mix so far, just not really the giant leap forward from A that A was from 2014, which is perfectly fine.
Oh, the one thing that's annoying about A20 is how Splash Gold and Last Card have been Extra Exclusives for-fucking-ever and they can't really be bothered to bring out a new one, but they've added like 20 Extra Savior songs or something like that. One new boss song after a year isn't THAT much to ask, surely.

A20 is my favorite mix now.
A20PLUS was pretty much going to be a step down no matter what. It's not DDR 2014 bad yet, but there have been a lot of songs I just don't care about (though that could just be because I don't know my J-Pop that well), and it has been hard to keep up with the new songs in the game since I haven't been able to play at an arcade for a year and some change.
I like that DDR is getting new weirder songs in different genres like Step Machine and I Want To Do This Keep. Unfortunately, I think they're fucking terrible songs.

Didn't DDR X bring in bunch of artists new to the arcade series? Yes, the game was bad, but it wasn't because there was no change going on.

X was a case of one step forward, ten steps back. Thankfully, with the power of time (over ten years now), most of those steps backwards have been rectified.
The mix still has a brown stain on it via the fact that it has several charts in the 16, 17 and 18 category, and all of them are amongst the worst in each respective folder to this day. The only tolerable two of them are Saber Wing Akira Ishihara Headshot Mix and Super Samurai.

My main issue with X is that most of the charts are weirdly easy as a whole, with the only hard charts being complete trash save a couple exceptions like Horatio ESP. I get that SN2 was a travesty chart-wise, but DDR needed more sensible hard charts, not a push back too far in the other direction. If it weren't for the X-Specials and the boss songs, X would be the easiest mix since 4th Mix.

Sigh... I can't believe I'm going to try to defend this disaster but dude DDR X introduced A Different Drum artists into the Arcade release and some of the songs were total bangers, but that's as much as I'm going to go with defending it. Yea I will agree the cabs sucked, and so is that annoying announcer along with pulling a DDRMax 6th mix on some good tracks, but If I had to say a worse modern DDR Release I'd pick X3 vs 2ndmix, 2013, or 2014, those ones just never brought anything new to the table. (Though 2014 did introduce the sequel to Replicant-d-Action.)

IIDX need a rating revamp just like what DDR had in X. There are hundreds of 12s that left you wondering how far does it extend. You have charts that are rather mild for a 12 such as A SPA and then you have KAMAITACHI Leggendaria on the same rating. But I guess there's already too many songs in the game they won't bother with it as it'd take forever to do.

Does that fall on the same category as on jubeat festo with its new decimal points on its 9’s and 10’s difficulties?

Yes, but here they didn't use decimals at all which makes it too vague. There's even some songs that have both SPH and SPA as Level 12 (I can only recall gigadelic and Innocent Walls IDK if there's any more) which would make you think "How hard is the SPH 12 and how hard is the SPA 12?". But the problem isn't only in Level 12 or 11, but the whole progression of difficulty. Level 1-7 aren't noticeable in difficulty, but it ramps up too steep from there to 12.

DDR fans complain about whether or not a song should be a 13 or a 14. IIDX fans accept that MENDES Black Another is the same difficulty as every other 12.

That's an unpopular opinion? I feel like it's one of the most iconic songs of the earlier mixes, at least tonally. It fit right in with songs like "LOVE SHINE" (yes I know that was from Extreme and not Max 2 but they're within the same time period) or any other of those pink songs.

^ not true. MAX2 CS in Japan came out four months after EXTREME, so it was considered a preview song for the next CS mix. Paranoia Survivor is also in that game.
