DJ Yoshitaka doesn't know how to DJ properly and also makes for a somewhat boring music producer. His transition to transition to Chief Executive of Konami Amusement branch shows that he is more interested in management than music.

I agree. I feel like I haven't gotten a "real" full combo if I get any goods.

GOODs should break combo and jumps should add 2 to combo. Why these things ever got changed to begin with is beyond me.Post #365 · Posted at 2021-04-16 07:00:03pm 3 years ago

Difficulty in 4 panel DDR is practically parody at this point. Even as a cardio exercise it's likely as good to play a 13-15 without the bar and let your body turn and actually perform jumps.

The second is by adding awkward turns and double steps so that the player has to actually think, which y'all hate.

Asaki has made a grand total of 2 decent songs his entire time in BEMANI so far. Most of his music is garbage, and people pretend to like it because it's "edgy".

Also, DDR sucks as a hard rhythm game, there are only 4 panels and it has been a solved game since MAX or earlier.
This is a flaw in Japanese rhythm game design in general -- it's not exclusive to DDR. If you're conservative with your game mechanics and the gimmicks you're willing to employ, you're going to hit a wall within a few mixes.

A ton of DDR charts are overcharted. Konami doesn't give hard charts to songs that could actually use them so instead we get shit like Shiny World CSP and Max 360 CSP, lmao.

Non-Japanese players should stop ignoring the infinitely superior Doubles mode, where you can't just mash your feet between the panels and survive with more than 50% goods. Stop being a singles scrub

Doubles premium should be on as default. How can you get people to play if it costs twice as much to play doubles than singles.

Golden League is not an incentive for getting people to play more for higher EX points overall; it's just a privilege of accessibility to the golden cabinets.

On top of that, Chris does not deserve to be called the GOAT of DDR. That honor should go to FEFEMZ/TAKASKE-/HO4-KETI/anyone else who is a god a singles and doubles.
Also, Konami should adopt the tournament format from World Pump Festival for KAC with Men's Speed, Women's Speed, and Freestyle divisions. No more claiming to be the best without playing doubles!

Me saying "nobody wants IIDX for your feet" and people(Sig) thinking that a lot of people saying "a complex song should've gotten a complex chart" is just that... oof.
Breaking: People who love the game they play attempt to optimize their technique as much as possible in order to get the best results (Next week: How to tie your shoelaces without falling over)

^ I just realized the picture is a person without shoes on a pad on a pad. That just looks like it won't end well, but who knows?
Anyway, a few opinions:
1.
DDR used to have the most diverse song library to me.
It later gained rivals in jubeat and Reflec Beat.
Now, I couldn't tell you if any BEMANI game could hold that title.
I blame BEMANI S*und Team for treating the artists as mere programs. Where are the souls behind thebangers, sometimes music?
2.
It's probably a good thing that DDR doesn't have a 20 yet. We barely have 19s pinned down, and they have less wiggle room now than 18s did by 2014. Plus, if you're worried about charting hitting a wall, why do you want the wall so badly?
3.
DDR Difficulty impressions:
<11 = Too easy/boring (since no one is a beginner anymore, I guess)
12-15|16 = Fun
15~ = Challenging
17|18~ = "We can now excuse the charting mechanics we didn't like in other songs because this song is difficult."
4.
Much as I like SDVX, it gets the lion's share of content that the other games desperately need. That being said, you would think there would be more BST originals (not counting crossovers, license remixes, and shared events) with how popular the game is.

To be honest, yeah. I'm content with the ITG 14s that already get made in stuff like BemaniBeats and Technical Showcase - DDR charters aren't even CLOSE to being on the level of quality that gets put out there when it comes to 19s (and most 18s tbh).

yeah i just noticed it's a mini pad ontop of a regular pad, it has some real "Top Ten Images Taken Seconds Before Disaster" energy

Additional hot takes:
-- DDR needs more western licenses and could benefit from having split updates, where some of the licenses are region exclusive.
-- (Not Bemani but) Pump it Up M is a good game, it's just poorly optimized. It has a good default songlist and if you're willing to invest ~$15-20 in shoes initially, the gacha mechanics will carry you through the rest of the game once you level up enough. I actually think DDR could benefit from having a similarly-styled mobile game if they don't want to release a peripheral-based CS game.
-- Most pop'n music songs are hot garbage.
-- Beginner mode should be removed from DDR, and some of the harder beginner charts should just be moved to Basic (with all subsequent charts moved up a level).

I mean if you're just gonna wiggle on cardboard and not move your body does it really matter how complex it is
