Hello. I was thinking of someone else repairing a RedOctane Afterburner dance mat ever since RedOctane was out of business for more than a year (due to a shutdown by Activision).
The metal mat turns out that every panel does not work, especially when connected to the control box. I tested the control box itself (even without a connected metal mat) and the Select/Start buttons still work. I opened the pad (and I am too lazy to tear the foam below) and the sensors were very clean (like fresh out the box). Somehow, the mat itself feels as if it lasted for 1 year or less.
Now here is the problem. What does the info mentioned above have to do with: the control box or the dance mat itself? I only have one Afterburner and I have not tried using another one. I am tired of soft mats and I do not even want to repay $100+ for another DDR metal mat that works.

Sometimes the control box is the problem. Have you tried opening it and looking at the wires inside? One of mine has a twisted wire that I had to put back into place. This gives me problems with my up and left arrows on one of my afterburner mats and my right and down arrows on my other afterburner mat.

I did what you said, but the pad still does not work. The wires were already straight at the beginning (the serial port), and I re-arranged the wires without soldering. I still tested on the PS2 and the panels still do not operate. If this is still the case, then should I buy a replacement control box? I think this should solve the case.

"Oh god what I have dooooone?!" |
do you have a volt meter?
You should be able to pop open the control box, and connect the points on the terminals leading to the dsub (the blue plug) and seeing if you get any registering. They should be labelled in some way. If you don't know what you're doing, take pictures and we'll help
