I did want to try my hand at it, I think I have enough pad stepping (and playing) experience to make some. It does annoy me though, I don't want to bandwagon since everyone and their mother does it. But half of them are crap too (SO SUBJECTIVE).
I tried restepping one song to see how it'd turn out. I want brutally honest opinions if it's even worth restepping DDR songs. It's not like I plan to step half the entire song list lol, but here and then.

If its a song that doesn't need an edit because its superb like Feelings Won't Fade, or I'm so happy then its unnecessary. If its a song that is begging for a re-edit like Kung Fu Fighting, Get up'n Move (SOLO 2000), and More than half of DDR 2010 then its a necessity.

It's necessary if you think it is necessary.
Share if you want.

It's not worth remaking charts that already exist. If you feel like the charts is N.G., go make an EDIT DATA chart.

It's only worth it if you hate the original charts or you like the song a lot.

You should be stepping songs because you want to step them. Don't worry about whether people are going to download/play them or not, 99% of simfiles receive no recognition whatsoever so just have fun with it.

@hooky I wouldn't even bother if I didn't like it, which happens often to charts I create. but yea
@NXC never. newb charting 101 lol and I prefer to make all my charts from scratch (I wrote up my own tutorial to stepping easier difficulties I wonder if I could post it up somewhere without looking like some egotistic new poster..)
@eataninja Thanks, it seems the charts I put less thought into come out looking better. Go figure.
@cowtao oh hai there haha sup
@aegis I was looking for a relevant answer, I felt that was philosophical and I was just asking about the playability and entertainment/production value of stepping old DDR songs. If stepping was a waste of time I wouldn't do it. I think it's necessary that some of my files aren't just files I personally enjoy since I like others to play my files in the communities I post in and since I submit to packs. Hope that makes it a bit easier to reply to, not taking the post too seriously though.
@thesirius Point taken. I don't plan on doing this for every other simfile I create. This is like my 50th file and first time touching a DDR song, so if it's a once in a blue type idea I think I'll just consider it that then, nothing but an edit. I was just trying to up the difficulty and make use of sounds that weren't embraced on the original (heavy) chart.
@chewi I'd say I like the song, but it's more that when I listened to the song I felt it had more potential as a harder chart.
Thanks for the feedback people, much appreciated. I see all sorts of DDR resteps and half of them are usually crap. You guys would know more than I would if it was worth doing or not, that's why I ask here. constructive answers, thanks~
Edit: Pie-kun, sup! The thing is I prefer stepping requests than I do for myself. I'm happy with a lot of the files I make for myself. At the same time I want to try out all kinds of stepping and all sorts of genres and whatnot. Mind you I own/run a site where we release packs that we polish up for plenty of people to enjoy, so I'm used to making files that would appeal to others, stepping full charts and trying out different styles and ideas. Priority is that I enjoy my files, but if I can make a file that I enjoy and that I think others can too then I'm going the extra mile.
I do step for myself though mostly, that remains unchanged.

Well, I guess I chose the wrong word.
I meant "spending time" in that sense.
My mistake.

Ideas for improvement
A. Less jumps. (Chromatic Blitz (ITG Rebirth boss song) had WAY too many jumps. This is similar)
B. For hands, they should be a tad bit slow. Going down on a 8th interval is not exactly fun.
C. Remove the ending crossovers, and try to watch for candlesteps. Too many is known to cause problems for reasons I don't know.

^The only reason I'm gonna agree with you is because I called it an ITG edit, so you're right. I'm also familar with the Chromatic Blitz song, (I wonder if they even finished the ITG Rebirth 2 beta lol), I never thought it had too many jumps. I enjoy crossovers, and I do agree those hands are a bit fast, but truthfully I've never gotten to play any of my files on a pad (yet), but I'd probably enjoy it.
A lot of ITG type players seem to have issues when I incorporate DDR type steps into an overall ITG looking chart (look at the charts from X and X2 lawl). It's not the first time I've been told this..but thank you for the feedback. I'll look over those candlesteps too.
btw this is what i was talking about got this reply from SMO
So yea. *throws book out the window*

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but someone already did all that. Every ddr song ever up til supernova 2 has already been made into a ITG chart update. KingofLight did it, and they are pretty damn good too. He kept the same feel of the songs, but more ITG arrow patterns and harder!
So yea. *throws book out the window*

Yeah I've noticed a fair amount of DDR songs remade with 'ITG' steps. One particular song that stuck out like a sore thumb was Insaner LED punishment mix as they completely removed the BPM changes, which I found to be a bit disingenuous to the original. Of course I have no interest in opening up this topic to debate on BPM changes.

The first simfiles I have ever made were of DDR edits, and I hosted them on FFR. Doing stuff like this is a good way to get your step making skills higher.

Candlesteps are frowned upon in ITG sims mainly because the leg motions to hit them require more cooperation and twisting from the upper body, so they're more exhausting at the same speeds than runs that face one direction. The same reasoning applies twofold to the lack of crossovers and Afronova walks in ITG sims.
Fortunately, I don't care about such things~
I took a look at the video, and your edit seems pretty good in general. The streams are mostly well-structured; they remind me of some of the more popular ITG stamina files. Like rayword45 said, quick hands aren't fun to pad unless you cheat them. If you don't want them cheated, I'd avoid the third and fourth groups where you have them reaching behind, because there's no good way to hit those.
As to the topic of restepping DDR songs,
also I stepped New Decade (full) before Konmai did
hint: it's awful

There are actually arrows that guide a spin so you would have your back to the screen when you did them. I'm a fan of spins and freestyle, some of my files have slight liberal use of spins. This isn't one of them though lol, but yea you shouldn't be reaching behind to hit those, spin a bit (not full) then go back to the bar if needed.
I basically agree with your entire post though, thanks for the comments. I don't consider myself new to pad stepping at all, though my kb stepping skills are prettt amateur (though index is pretty good..). But I do consider my style a bit quirky, and I like my own style, so the priority of liking my own stuff is there. Funny enough some of my least favorite files go over well with others more than ones I favor.

I find "cool file, but <insert username>'s chart is a lot better imo. noob restep" really really annoying.
I try to stay away from resteps unless I absolutely think I can do a decent and comparable job. I don't usually step songs I like, I get more enjoyment out of stepping files for others lol..but I tend to create charts I can enjoy.
EDIT: Happy bday cowtao
and I have a link now with custom GFX. Not as good as the original maybe but I don't like to steal visuals.

Sorry for the bump but..Wow, and I just noticed that the same DDRXero64 is the same guy from stepmaniaonline.eu. I am slow to embrace new things.
