I am the tech for a coin-op company in Canada.
Our DDR Supernova, which is a converted older machine using a kit from Betson, will no longer boot.
It has been running fine for years until last week. Hopefully this picture shows up:

I've been told that it appears the hard drive is either failed or corrupted.
Or the boot loader is corrupt. Fix is to test drive, then copy the bootloader off another working Python2 based game, then run the DDR SN install disc. However, we neither own another Python2 based game, or know anyone that does.

Any assitance in getting this running would be appreciated.

"OMG KON!"
Have you tried contacting Betson yet? They usually will repair the drive for you or send you a new one. The bad thing about this is it costs $$$ but it might be your only option. I think Betson still does support the game so its been to give them a call.

"Give me a steady beat."
This happened to a US SuperNOVA in Las Vegas. It turned out the hard drive was fine, it was the Japanese PlayStation 2 that had somehow failed. It took them forever to fix because Betson had to go out and find a fat J-PS2 to replace it with.

Betson will gladly sell us the entire "computer" for $850USD.
I was hoping there was a cheaper solution. OR use that $850 to maybe rekit this machine to a newer version?

Might be an idea. You could kit it out with a pc and stick Open In The Groove on it, or try to find a supernova 2 kit or an asian X/X2.

Better idea scrap it in to the trash and I'll come on up there and take it for free. but then again theres the customs to go through with that and might be hard to explain. Tongue

If a replacement Python runs $800+, and it can only play two titles, that's probably not an investment worth taking, since ITG/SM alternatives are much cheaper AND more flexible. You could get a PC + JPAC system up and running smoothly for under $500 easily.

If you DO end up deciding to take that path, make sure to put the Python2 up here for auction, I'd definitely be interested. ;)

I am assuming ITG/SM = "In the Groove". Can someone point me to more info about this? Have heard of ITG, never seen or dealt with one.

If I go that route, and the ITG is a better earner, then yes I will be getting rid of the Python2 Supernova setup.

Official ITG kits won't work with a Python2 DDR cabinet, unless I'm mistaken.

I have a video of a cab in Australia that's a supernova 2 cab with OITG or somethin set up on it.

You'd be better off checking http://aaronin.jp/boards/viewforum.php?f=17 there though.

Basically because you can't get the official kits anymore (at least, not NEW) people instead make Open ITG cabinets, which is free and capable of running standalone on an arcade cabinet, provided you set it up correctly on a (generally linux based) pc with a Jpac to interface the pads to the PC via usb/ps2 connections.

Yes, sorry, I was referring to an OpenITG machine, which runs on pretty much any old Windows/Linux machine.

Ok, so a PC running Linux, with OpenITG on it, and a JPAC adapter to the pads, is that correct?
Is this stable enough for an arcade environment? And more importantly, is it setup for coin rather than free play?
What about I/O for the lights, in the main cabinet and in the pads?

OpenITG has arcade options, to make the light work AND not burn out your boards a great deal of extra work is needed. I would check out the threads on boxorroxor.net for help with that.

From what I've seen and heard, the lights can be done through custom wiring using relays, diodes and an Ipac. The ipac can handle small LED bulbs by itself (I believe up to like 300 MA or something) as far as I know but yes using the neons and stuff will flatout burn the board from what I hear.

Register on Aaronin.jp, and check out aaronin.jp/boards/viewforum.php?f=17 for some help, and the aforementioned boxorroxors for more help.

As for OITG being able to be setup for coin play, it can be done as far as I know, (I mean as a base installation, without a pre existing ITG kit) but they don't like to talk about it sometimes for legal reasons or some bullshit.

But yeah before you dive in check the aforementioned sites.
