Axel, the Japanese version is heaps and bounds better than the International version which feels quite sad in comparison. The features alone are more in the Japanese version though the International version will get them at some point. Even if you're not into mainstream Japanese music or tohou or denpa the vast selection of song packs for sale is very overwhelming. They're also at this point very expensive to start up the game because you'll find songs that you want but don't have money. I don't suggest jailbrekaing and downloading all the songs for free but it's out there lol. Go get about 5,000 yen worth of song packs (a start up of 40 songs total) to get a feel for the game. Thankfully you can hear song samples before you buy a pack. Traditionally Konami puts the Konami Original packs on sale every summer so take note of that. Speed mods have been introduced and with dimming your CPU it literally breaks the game in your favor which will give you AAA rankings quite easily.

Sequences is the place to buy SPECIAL charts.

Try setting the CPU to a lower difficulty or better yet turn them invisible so all you see are your objects.

You see.. I consider that cheating. I want to play it like its meant to be played Cause i can AAA a lot of the charts.. But with them enabled it drops to like an A.

By the way, if you're at an event where you'll be around a bunch of people and doing nothing for prolonged periods (For me, this would be the endless downtime in every speech & debate tournament), Reflec Beat is a great game to play with friends. You might have to teach them a bit or turn down the difficulty, but I think that's helped me improve as a player.

That's a good idea rapid when you lose a debate you can kick your opponent's ass in REFLEC BEAT instead. They may have better ideas on combating climate change but you can outscore them in REFLEC BEAT like a bossVery Happy

(Technically, I don't do debate, I do speech. I'd never touch debate, even if I had a 5 ½ foot pole. Don't ask why...) To be honest, I don't usually play with my competitors, I just play with a few other friends on my team. I'd love to play with some of my competitors, though. But if there is some git trying to say that he's the best at everything and better than I am, this is my rebuttal. (Or any rhythm game in particular- During districts my sophomore year, I brought some homebuilt dance pads made by a friend of mine, and hooked them up to my laptop to play Stepmania)

Double play is the only reason why I don't use mods. I want to get better on the standard settings so I can do better when playing with other people. I guess what you want to do for mods depends on what you want to do with the game- Do you just want to get high scores? Turn on all the mods and go for it. Want to have a casual fun time with random people? Practice without mods and with the AI set to more and more advanced levels. I think that's why this game isn't as popular in the US- It's somewhat hard and luck based to get high scores, but the game is mostly built for a casual game time with multiple people, like Mario Party. I guess I'm just the kind of guy who would go out of his way to figure out the metagame for Mario Party.

High scores are in no way "luck based" in Reflec Beat.

They aren't. There are many variables that change, however, like the speed and angle of the notes. Ultimately, since you can't memorize the actual layout of the chart, you can't exactly memorize a chart like you can with DDR, Jubeat, and IIDX. (But people play IIDX on random all the time, I guess?) I guess my point was just that Reflec Beat is the most "casual" of the Bemani games. Not that it's easy, of course. It's just that from what I've seen, it's somewhat unpopular within the US Bemani fanbase.

I'd go as far as to say Jubeat is WAY more casual than high-level RB stuff.

As in, easier to learn, mechanic-wise, or the selection (read: prevalence) of licenses? I find Jubeat easier to just about the same in difficulty, but most people I play with have an easier time with Reflec Beat than Jubeat.

And I'm not specifically saying that the high-level stuff is casual. I've played and failed many level 10s. And I'm not saying being casual is a bad thing. I think this is the easiest Bemani game to pick up and play. (as long as someone reminds you ahead of time about those triangle notes...)

As in, the practice needed to get a 980k on a Jubeat 10 is a LOT less than the practice needed to FC AAA+ a 15 in RB.

Casual doesn't mean easy- It's how easy it is to simply pick up and play. If anything, casual games are harder for more experienced gamers because even if you do everything perfectly, there's usually many randomized factors meant to equalize factors. Now, I'm not saying the randomization in Reflec Beat is mean to equalize players on different levels. Reflec Beat is a game about skill. However, enough randomization exists so that it's perfectly possible to get an outcome that screws you over. I never said RB is easier. It's a casual game, and it changes things up enough to make top-level play extremely difficult. This makes play easier and more fun if you're playing low-level songs with friends with no sense of rhythm, but makes upper level play a hassle. Unless you turn all the mods on, of course.
