"Wow, 4 types of corn!" |
Last updated: 2011-09-10 08:50pm
I will probably need to translate this but one of the local players here "KOU1" prepares these little DDR quizzes and tests now and then, and this year he rented out a room at the culture center and held a full blown examination (and graded it). He may have went a bit overboard this year, but in any case he is sharing the test so I'll put it here in case anyone wants to geek out (highest score was 82 points):
Edit> I think the English translation is usable, but let me know if there are any glaring errors.

* Note, you may think 1-(2) is wrong, but it isn't. I even slipped in a hint in the first part of the question that wasn't even in the Japanese and every submission I have seen still got it wrong.
(Still, I might have goofed up the answer key so feel free to point out anything suspicious)

If only DDR was popular enough in America to warrant a graded quiz.

One of the only test in the world I would lose sleep over and get excited about.

I'm gonna wait until it's translated to look. I fancy having a go at this one. Even though I'll PROBABLY get a 25 or something.

There are some interesting questions in here from what I've looked at and can tell.
If you want to know a few of the kinds of questions:
A few fill in the blanks
Choosing which songs in a set have gimmicks or certain difficulties
Sort a set of songs by notecount
Match a chart portion with a song
Modified True/False (insert correct answer if false)
They expect some serious memorization for this test. I thought I memorized a lot about DDR, especially with recent stuff, but there's many things I don't know here (though having access to X2 AC would make this a lot easier, especially since I'm trying to hold off on getting too many X2 simfiles).

This won't take too long to write out a translation unless Pie-kun wants to help, but I just need a few minutes to rub together when I'm not zooming to work or taking care of my son. Oh, I also got the answers given to me; I'll post those later.
It gets nuts at the end with those "math" questions. I don't know who'd know the 2nd part of that question off heart:
(Questions 9 - 13 here. Work in Progress, may have some errors atm:)
Oops , better hide them to not spoil the test for that that want to take it until I finish everything
Question 9 : Identify the song from the section of the stepcharts below and select the appropriate song from included song list, also below.
(Insert 4 charts here)
(1) (2) (3) (4)
■Song List■ (single)a - j (double)A - E
a.DROP (Expert Single)
b.Shine (Challenge Single)
c. 888 (Expert Single)
d.more more more (Expert Single)
e.HERO (Expert Single)
f.TENSHI (Expert Single)
g.resonance (Expert Single)
h.冥 (Mei) (Expert Single)
i.Crazy Control (Challenge Single)
j.Heatstroke (Expert Single)
A.888 (Expert Double)
B.ΔMAX (Expert Double)

MAX 300 ? 18
PARANOiA Rebirth ? 14
MAXX UNLIMITED 18 18
PARANOIA EVOLUTION 14 ?
The legend of MAX 17 ?
Question 11 : Mark the following statements as True (○) or correct the highlighted word/term it if it is False.
(1) The Konami electronic payment system supported by X2 is called "Serori"
(2) The name of the character in Figure 1 is called "Puchidamon"
(3) The name of the character in Figure 2 is called "Nami"
(4) The play mode in DDR X2 other that "PRO" mode is called "SMILE" mode
(5) The artist of the song "Hide-away" is "水木 しげる" (Mizugi Shigeru)
(6) The artist of the song "☆shining☆" is "ピンクカプセル" (Pink Capsule)
(7) The BPM of "Sky Is The Limit" is 150.
(8) The difficulty level of "虹色" (Nijiiro) on Challenge is 13 on single, but 14 on double.
(9) "bag" on Challenge difficulty was unlocked initially when your Enjoy Level reached 150.
(10) The number of BPM stops in "roppongi EVOLVED ver.D" is 13.
(11) When sorting songs by BPM, the slowest songs are "Sana Morette Ne Ente" and "bag" at 65BPM.
(12) When sorting songs by Folder, the folder with the fewest songs is "1st" followed by "MAX".
(13) When playing GOLD RUSH (Home DDR Version), the announcer calls out, in the following order):
"待たせたな!" →(older mixes...)→ "EXTREME" → "EXTRA MIX" →
"Party Collection" → "HOTTEST PARTY" → "STRIKE" → (other mixes...)
(Question 12:)
Example : (Expert Difficulty Level of 'Pluto' Expert Single) - (Number of Songs in 1st mix folder)
14 - 3 = 11
Answer is 11.
#1. (Difficulty Level of Mikkeneko Rock Expert Single) x (Difficulty Level of e-Motion Expert Double)
#2. (Maximum Displayed BPM of Valkyrie Dimension) + (Difficulty Level of Valkyrie Dimension Beginner) - (Number of steps in Delta Max Expert Double) - (PARANOiA's Artists Name)
(Question 13:)
List all songs in DDRX2 (all song folders) that have a shock arrow chart.

I'll wait, too. I think I'll do good (I've been called a DDR encyclopedia, but this is me in NY). This sounds like a lot of fun

Okay, I finished it and made it a PDF and all.
The answer sheet is not done yet. You can use the one linked in the first post and follow it in order (fill in the answer spaces in order) if you really want. I'll give the answers to the test later.
http://aaronin.jp/shashin/DDR_X2_TEST_KOU1_ENG.pdf
EDIT> Yeah, questions 8-1 and 8-2 are probably going to be unfair for non-Japanese speakers. This is mostly memorization work, though. The player ranks over eAmuse haven't ever had an official English translation I don't *think*...even if I translated it though, these titles haven't been on any overseas version of the game (lack of eAmuse support)

The first paragraph for the passage for Question 2, is that e-amuse related?
Edit: Done! I tried my best with my memories. I'll upload my answers if anyone is interested.

Actually, I am interested if you upload your answers. I have already seen a few people's responses and I'm curious how far/good a Westerner can go on this exam.
Edit> Fixed question 11. There were 2 figures missing so it was not possible to answer some of the questions.

KOU1 (Kouichi) has written these kind of quizzes and tests before, but I'm not sure if he has gone to the trouble of renting a room solely for the purpose of taking one of his "examinations" and the grade them/offer certificates. He does this for his definition of "fun". Him and Pre-san (Precise) are walking dictionaries of useless Bemani trivia and puns.
I might be wrong on this, but wasn't KOU1 the one that once ate 100 McDonalds hamburgers in a single setting just because he could? (This is me talking to myself here) If that is the case, he is also the same guy that maxed out the nonstop score counter on DDR 4th mix CS when Konami had an Internet Ranking for that
*bump*
Did a quick translation of the student answer sheet. It is kind of crude but it should get the job done. I updated the first post.
Oh, and LWorld mentioned this exam on his site/blog. He chewed my head off at two things: He meant just plain "BPM changes" instead of gradual BPM change, and it is "Mai", not "Maiko", so I fixed those. He's also curious how any western participant would do. I have a few replies though so I'll just check those out first.

That kinda change my answers a bit for question 3, but just so you know, the majority of the songs in that list has BPM changes xD.
Also, I play the Asian version, and I think for question 2, (a) is the first song you see when you start playing...lol

Yeah, I figured as much (re: Question 3). For 2 a), yeah, that is the question.
Update> Okay, I have about a dozen responses so far, which is pretty decent. I have the answer key and I'll try to put it in a readable format tonight and/or give out the grades from your tests.
Though, I do suspect with easy access to the internet, some may have "accidentally" looked up some of the obscure facts to answer some of the questions; could you really pull off these facts in a test environment? In any case, this is all in fun.
Also for fun, the highest score on this at the test center here was 82, though the failure rate for the class was over 50% (requiring 60 points to pass)

In all honesty, I didn't use the internet. You can see for yourself, as I couldn't answer a lot of the answers, and couldn't think of songs with exclamation marks, other than "DXY!". I hope I at least barely passed lol.

I think some of those answers are wrong. For #1, the given answer for part 2 is "is it a licensed song?" Neither CG Project nor Going Up are licensed. Also, for the stepcount questions, the answer is written in descending order when it should be ascending, unless I'm reading the exam wrong... There's a few more as well, but I don't have time to list them.

I knew someone would say that. Read my first post. on Question 1-(2). There is a hint I put in the first part of the exam that wasn't on the Japanese one because it threw me for a loop until it was explained to me (There may be other songs other than those listed as possible answers for 1-(1)
However, yeah, Q7 is backwards. I'm going to have to reverse the question (or the answers).
Edit> For everyone, check the Japanese version of the exam. I may very well have crossed answers in some lists where the Japanese were listed in kana and I put them in the roman alphabet in the English version
