"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
I would like to invite everyone to follow my journey into making a world record attempt at surpassing the world record held by Carrie Swidecki of 15 hr 17 min 44 seconds.
I am officially going to attempt breaking this record with a possible 24 hour attempt if not longer.
I want to make this forum open for discussion on how I am doing this and possibly discuss ideas on to handle certain things.

Did you get in touch with Konami?... Because unless you have some sort of weight-loss story or PR appeal, then I don't think they want their current record to be broken.
Comedy option : Play the PS3 game for 16 hours.

I doesn't matter if they want the current record to be broken or not, they really don't have a say in it. But I may contact them anyways to see if they want to offer any resources to help.

Contact Guiness then and do it now, when are you planning on doing this record? Reason why i say "Contact Guiness now" is because it takes WEEKS before they send you a message back since they have to look at records that are similar to this one as well as figuring out if the record is justified to be put into the book/records.

I've already contacted Guinness. I have the documents, procedures and guidelines to follow. When I said official I meant "GWR Official"

So, you're going to play DDR on Expert straight for 24 hours. I wish you luck, and hope you succeed. When will this take place?Post #10 · Posted at 2011-09-02 01:57:54am 13.8 years ago

Damn it I was thinking of doing this, I had a sob story and everything :/
Although you probably have more of a chance of actually DOING 24 hours. I was thinking 16.

Are there any other WR for DDR besides how long you play? I'd like to break or make one at some point.

"~Let's keep it real~" |
How about we make this a site-wide competition and try to do it all on various days sometime throughout the year?
Wouldn't it be awesome if this could be our thing to do to get some action for DDR around the globe or something like that?
Think about it, we can make it our "goal" to get "fit" so KONAMI can see that there are dedicated people attempting to bring this into the news.
Headline: One website dedicated to a video game [series] sets it's sights on breaking a world record MULTIPLE TIMES! But first there was a murder today in.....
Of course, not everyone has to do it, but at least get a few people trying it or see if we can all start it at the same time in every time zone of say the US and a few people in the UK and a few people in Asia/Japan.

Ok give me a few minutes and I'll get some ideas down.
How about this, everyone think of something that you could use as a "reason" to get into shape.
Like me, I could say I use DDR to get into shape for the military. (Not complete BS by the way)
OK, so, my first thought about it being on various days would be only if they have a limited number of GBWW officials and can't get to every person playing. If they have enough people I'd love for this to be on one day and possibly shoot for a record of "Most Number of People Playing A Dancing Game Simultaneously" or something to do with it being a massive endurance record of all of us playing at one time.
With everyone on this site literally being in different places around the world we would have to make sure everyone starts playing at the same time. They do this for you and all that so it's not difficult. People involved will of course have to make arrangements to take a day off from work, school, or whatever you do so you can make the record.
With Konami of America's push in recent years to get fit with DDR and Dance Masters/Evolution this will be a perfect opportunity to have Konami get involved so they can have a chance to use US, the Dance Dance Revolution community, to promote their products. If the West Virginia State Championships can get into the news every other day, we can get this into the news internationally for sure. Maybe even call it, DDR's "Come Back Tour" or something like that.
Everyone can have a little testimony of how they got started into DDR and tell the promoters why they are using it to get into shape, how it got them into shape, or why they play it for fun. It doesn't have to be one of those reasons but the media eats that kinda stuff up for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert respectively.
If this were to work, we could get a few places that have DDR cabs but in poor condition a chance to get a total makeover with new cabinets *cough cough DDR X3 VS. 2ndMIX* or SuperNOVA/2 pads in PERFECT FREAKING CONDITION. Being hopeful on the X3 stuff but slightly serious so we have a chance at having a machine that we can play on for an extended amount of time without having to work too hard.
People won't have to last the entire time but if, say, four people lasted past 14 hours there are four record breaks right there. That in of itself is worthy enough for news. This might spark some interest in the arcade industry if we play on AC mixes and NOT on CS releases.
See, something like that would get there attention especially if they saw it in action.

We (as a community) are always saying how the arcade industry is dying around the world, this will help breathe some life into it if people are spending gobs of money to get into shape. If you think about it, playing 20 songs three times a week will definitely get someone in shape relatively quick. I should know, I played 20 songs one time and after that I have been getting progressively more into "DDR Shape" and Sobakasu ~Freckles~ DP
isn't a problem for me any more. V (FOR EXTREME) DP
is literally a warm-up song for me now after not playing hard for a year. It's not hard for the "Super Veterans" but for someone like me who has only played Doubles for a year it's a vast improvement. In fact, I first cleared V (FOR EXTREME) DP
after only playing Doubles for two months last year!

See, something like that would get there attention especially if they saw it in action.

I already sent in my submission to break this record as well. I sent in my request a few weeks ago and got my email earlier this week to allow me to attempt the record. I am going to have a talk with my local venue (Gameworks) to see if they will allow me to attempt the record on sight near the end of September as well as being my official sponsor. My goal is to try playing over one day (24 hours), but I will play until I am literally exhausted and can no longer keep playing.
Technically I could do this at my house on my own DDR machine, but I don't see the fun in that. I want to show people the arcade community isn't dead and support everything DDR is. I'll keep everyone updated on my end as well.
The 15 hour record currently standing is... Well... Nothing (sorry to whoever earned it!). I actually have done a marathon at my house a few years back that was almost 17 hours of playing. I literally woke up, played DDR all day, ate and went to bed.

Kon: Actually can't do it at your house. You have to do it in a publicly accessible venue where people can freely enter and leave.
For anyone thinking about attempting this, it's not as simple as "try it and break it". There's a lot of guidelines to follow and a lot of organization involved from getting round-the-clock witnesses, media attention, a venue to play at (of course this can be by passed by getting a GWR adjunct for the low low price of $7200 USD).
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people attempting this, but I'm mostly wanting to discuss the process in which I'm doing this to help other people (like Kon) who want to seriously attempt to break the record and have it recognized by GWR.

The record exists so that Konami can use it as a media tool. Every few years, Konami sponsor someone to set a new world record, in order to raise awareness of the game as a fitness tool, and give DDR some media attention.
The current record holder is actually a fantastic player, but I believe Konami put her upto it, and paid all the costs involved in her record attempt. The last thing that they want is for someone to go out and set a record of 24 hours, which kills their chances of setting further world records.
My advice would be to contact Konami, and tell them that you want to attempt to set a new world record of 16 hours, and that you would be happy to patron a charity of their choice. With Konami on your side, you get a much easier task, and they don't have to deal with the headache of losing a major publicity tool.
