With Youtube being so monstrously comprehensive these days, people will upload seemingly anything. Thank goodness that "anything" also covers terribly obscure 1990s pop songs. 10 years ago, I never imagined that songs like Stomp To My Beat would have professionaly made music videos, let along that I'd ever get to see them.
Inspired by a weird Facebook post by JAKAZiD, I hit up Youtube to DDR songs that I thought were too obscure to have music videos. Here's the top 10 songs that you've probably never heard outside of DDR, which all (somehow) have music videos.
-
#10 Duke - Starian
KOREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! This video is so messed up that it deserves a 1-minute credit sequence before the song even starts... Which it has.
-
#9 Boyzone - So Good
The most accidently-played song in DDR history also has the gayest music video.
-
#8 Bus Stop - Kung Fu Fighting
Darren Sampson draws a penis on his face, and tries to look badass.
-
#7 Alexia - Uh La La La
As well as being the most infamously hard song in DDR, Uh La La La was a bit unique in that the original song completely flopped outside of Europe, while a remix got into the UK Top 10. This is the version everyone remembers, made a few years after the original release of the song.
-
#6 Captain Jack - Dream A Dream
When AATW bought the rights to Captain Jack in 2010, they somehow made a terrible music video for it, even though it already had a pretty good music video to begin with. Features a random guy dressed up as Captain Jack, not even bothering to mime the song.
-
#5 Papaya - Hero
Miss Papaya has the most bizarre fetish imaginable.
-
#4 Aaron Carter - Aaron's Party
This iconic freestyle song was made when Justin Bieber was 6. I really really want Aaron Carter's shirt :{
-
#3 JS16 - Stomp To My Beat
I don't know how to describe this, over than "It's a IIDX video"
-
#2 Machoman - Wookie Wookie
Japan makes a cover of a 90s european pop song, and tries to give it a 90s music video, on a budget of 90 yen.
-
#1 Triple J - Follow The Sun
I'm sure everyone can close their eyes and remember this song, but can you close your eyes and imagine who sings it?
-
Can anything beat Follow The Sun? Feel free to post your own findings!

Aaron's Party was actually fairly well-known in the US, so I don't think that belongs on the list. I also remember Wookie Wookie's music video was linked a lot when SuperNOVA was first out.

The Kung Fu Fighting remake was pretty huge in the UK back in '98, I thought.

FIXED. The old video sufficed. Captain Jack pretty much died with Franky Gee's death in 2005.Post #6 · Posted at 2011-08-04 06:57:09am 13.9 years ago

I've seen the Follow the Sun video before and it's still the most hilarious out of the bunch.
Also Stomp to my beat is fantastic lol.

The Wookie Wookie video appeared as the BGA for the song on SuperNova, did it not? I always found it hard to concentrate on the song with gorgeous women popping out of trash cans in lingerie.

At one point in time, there was a Wookie Wookie simfile in circulation with the official steps and the video. I also had that simfile. I was disappointed to find out that the song didn't have the video.

You forgot Dub-I-Dub:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cS2TtuZyn4
and Butterfly:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_qwUS8Uqjg
Easily two of the strangest music videos ever. Dub-I-Dub looks like it was filmed by someone with a lip and/or french maid fetish, and Butterfly is a CGI experiment gone horribly wrong.
Edit - others I forgot about:
Ba Kkwo:

Chotto Kiitena:

Edit 2: One more

Ah, that must have been it or something. I do remember watching it on loop on youtube at one time, haha.

This should have been in the top 10 of the original post. Tisk tisk tisk.

I never really cared for this song, until I saw the video. Considering DDRMAX only has 42 songs, there certainly was more room to put this video on the CD-ROM.

Problem with space they never had. It's just that they didn't want to pay to use it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkPuBU3IWEI

Unless you count the promotional video of Riyu seen in the true...s in 6thMIX, DDR didn't have commercial music videos until the American DDRMAX2 in late 2003.
