Hope everyone in Japan and the Pacific islands in this community is doing alright. This was the only thing on the tv and radio when I woke up this morning.
Edit: Wow, just learned that Sendai is a "business partner" sister city of Dallas. So the connections might run deep for some people around here.

The earthquake made some really damage, but hopefully Japan won't have to much of a hard time recovering from this. Hopefully this won't make any negative long term effects on the country.

I don't think you can have 1,000+ people die, countless more injured, untold amounts of homes and cars destroyed, and the threat of a nuclear meltdown all within a 24 hour period and not have some pretty negative long term effects.

DOLCE is alive? Great so see that!
So I just woken up now, seeing this thread, I think the situation has worsened. Japanese peeps, I hope you can get back home and sleep well. It makes me really worried now...
Oh I just remembered something on my mind. If I remember correctly, my teacher said that Japan is always hit by Earthquake every year. So they designed the Buildings and Houses to "survive" from Earthquakes. If that's true, I think there won't be any major damages happening.. Unless Tsunami hits the town centers (I really hope not).

While they do everything they reasonably can to prepare for earthquakes, 8.9 magnitude is absolutely catastrophic and there is not much that can be done to lessen its impact. There has already been incredible damage, both from the quake and tsunami.

Oh man, this is reminding me of the Chile earthquake from last February. If I'm not mistaken these two earthquakes were in the same magnitude range.
I hope those that were affected by the earthquake can have a stable recovery.

I saw footage of the damage all day today (CNN, ABC News, local stations, Fuji TV, NHK), and I couldn't imagine how anyone would survive it. My thoughts are with the people affected by this tragedy.
I helped out by collecting money and donating it to the Red Cross. Every little bit counts.

It's really sad that this had to happen. This was also the most unexpected thing I'd ever imagine happening so fast. My heart goes out to all of those affected by this disaster. I'm glad that the buildings were built to withstand earthquakes...otherwise, it would have been much much worse.

It is truly very fortunate that there were some lesser foreshocks in advance of the main earthquake, which allowed the Japanese media to issue an emergency earthquake warning in advance, so people had some brief notice to seek shelter. This likely saved countless lives.

Best of luck, Japan.

Some idiot spreaded the rumor on twitter that Satoshi Tajiri (pokemon creator) is dead, and died on the tsunami...
He's alive!, and some idiots insist that he's dead. I want to punch that people in the face.

There are naive people like those in every country.... But there is nothing we can do really. This is just how it is... Sad but true...
back to topic, the ship that was swap away by the tsunami was found and all 81 passengers are safe... There are still no news regarding the 4 missing JR trains...
