Ok I think we are going in too deep, let's just keep posting interesting things there is a thread for posting reengineering games. (I still think Valencia has the same Hairstyle as Honey's under that hat.)

There is an extremely subtle difference in osaka EVOLVED TYPE1's intro - You can hear a washed-out cymbal crash immediately in TYPE1, but not in TYPE2 or TYPE3.

Reviving the subject of DDR in pop culture media for a bit, here's Nekomiya Hinata, a Virtual YouTuber, playing DDR Party Collection from earlier this week.

Apparently, the DDR masterlist iteration seen in the DDR EXTREME E3 demo labels the licensed covers in the final game a little differently, such as

Believe (fortune cookie mix)
Bizarre Love Triangle (brand-new morning ver.)
Ladies' Night (Diamond Mix)
Like A Virgin (Kitten Mix)

kors k's Programmed Universe is named after the DDR Universe subseries, and you can see why since kors k made his debut in DDR with Universe 3, and apparently the song was supposed to debut in U3 as well judging by the soundtrack listing for an album containing that song
also L.E.D got pissed kors k made the song for DDR and not IIDX

ooh and i just found this out today, the oni exclusive remixes in MAX2 reused backgrounds of their original versions of the songs; to make it more clear or to prove such here:

EXTREME is where they got their updated artwork

I think one of them has a bass kick instead. You could tell the type during the randomization from this.

And yes, *arcade* MAX2 used the original backgrounds; the banners/backgrounds seen in Extreme on were first on MAX2 for PS2 (since they became unlockables in that version, for purposes of Edit Mode). Console MAX2 also got PARANOiA Survivor as final stage.

Speaking of MAX2, the loctest had a song on the artwork on the sides of the cabinet featuring a list of songs in the game, one of them being MEMORY - NAOKI ft. Paula Terry. Considering Euromix 2 uses the same engine and features a song called MEMORIES - NAOKI ft. Paula Terry, it is possible MEMORIES was originally titled that and was supposed to be on MAX2 or KONAMI did a KONMAI since MEMORIES was nowhere on the loctest, and DESTINY was in the loctest, but DESTINY was NOT listed on the songlist artwork located at the sides of the cabinet. Both MEMORY and DESTINY did end in a Y (obviously Roll Eyes), so at least it is presumed both songs were produced and possibly spun off in some way or form from each other, and that MEMORY was indeed an early title for MEMORIES. Of course, this is all #theorytimewithRandom so Roll EyesRoll EyesRoll Eyes

That's really cool. Could you upload the master list file from that version?

The covers in DDR are not the same as the ones in KR. These covers were made specifically for DDR. The KR covers sound more like their respective original versions.

*Insert joke about TSUGARUStandard here*

Kind of a random trivia, but DDR Mario Mix is the only console game where the songlist is the same in every version of the game (JP, US and EU)

In the backgrounds folder in Ultramix 3 their is a xmv file that is called "tono", when you open it in VLC, it's a background clip for Tsugaru. Because the original Tsugaru was in Ultramix 1, this could mean Apple Mix was originally gonna be in Ultramix 3 either as DLC because the challenge songs are DLC, whats even more strange is this clip isn't in the background files for Ultramix 2. I would post pictures but I don't use stuff like Photobucket or all that jazz.

Ultramix 1 IIRC was literally "port DDRMAX (US) to XBox and change the songs." You see how that turned out.

I mean, it was originally supposed to be literally a sequel to the original DDR PC game which also happened to share the song list with the PS1 US CS games along with some small amount of MAX US CS songs in there too. That is also why ULTRAMIX reused so many assets from the ps2 games, only had 2 dancers, and few new (read: actual new songs, crossovers don't count) songs bc Konami quickly realized no one liked DDR PC so development quickly shifted over to the XBOX

https://youtu.be/ZVNEoP3JF8w the big think

some of the notes in this chart form a pattern in the shape of a swastika, it may be coincidence but given the manji in the original graphics, and the okiniwan/highly asian sound of this song, i think it may be intentional uwu (swastikas are a religious symbol in asian countries including Japan and are not viewed in the same way as the west views them like how Americans view the symbol as one of the Nazis Cry)

Play Hard samples 2 songs that were scrapped from previous american console releases (better off alone and in my dreams; hp3/dce and um2 respectively)

hudson soft did some ddr games as some of y'all may know but their contributions also included designing stepcharts for the following games: HP2, 2010, and II (which may explain their quality Roll Eyes)

Some of y'all may know this if you own a copy of the game and viewed the credits but many have probably not so: X2 AC uses the ending theme from its "respective" console version that was released earlier in 2009, it's more obvious as you realize J-Mi and Midi-D did the X2 AC BGMs, while the credits song is clearly and distinctly nc or Hiroshi Kato to be exact
- J-Mi was also the announcer for the first 2 ULTRAMIX Games, as stated in the credits, and the composer of the BGMs for those respective games (or just UM1) is Jaren Tolman, the person who did GYRUSS -FULL TILT-
- Speaking of announcers, the ULTRAMIX 3 announcer I think might be a reverand, (yes) but I am unsure to say that it really is bc it doesn't clearly list him as the announcer and has a similar but one that probably proves me wrong credit but whatever he was credited again as a thanks for assisting in the audio/announcer/sound whateva area so maybe it is him
- And also speaking of BGMs, FESTIVAL also uses the ULTRAMIX2 selection BGM, but only that and it is the only Japanese game to use a BGM from any of the ULTRAMIX sequels rip
- Speaking of ULTRAMIX sequels, SuperNova imported ULTRAMIX songs that have never appeared on a CS JP catch-up release for the Xbox games/songs/stuff (lol) prior to SN's release, namely the ULTRAMIX 3 songs and ULTRAMIX2 DLC songs or just one uwu and so that's interesting that the AC team would import these songs since Japan won't get more Xbox songs they haven't seen already in a DDR game b4 until X2 AC and no more CS catch-up releases would be made after STR!KE, and also Drivin' would be a ULTRAMIX3 song speaking of but the Konami Japan higher ups decided otherwise and now it debuted on SN officially uwu (ugh I use uwu too much but it be like dat sumtimez uwu uwu uwu)

- ULTRAMIX and ULTRAMIX 2 use the same exact credits music smh #lazyjk

- B4U (Rising Sun Mix) uses the exact (more or less) original lyrics and vocals while its' companion song or replacement in the US version of HP uses some new lyrics and uses a new vocalist, thus (Rising Sun Mix) is the only new Hottest Party remix/remake/reimagining of a classic DDR song that debuted in the HP series (so the KISS KISS KISS remix doesn't count uwu) that mostly uses the original lyrics and vocals

-The ULTRAMIX routines were motion captured and performed by (TO BE FILLED IN LATER BUT ITS A MAN AND WOMAN DUH) for the guy routine and lady routine respectively, AFRO and lady

facts that i am not sure if i mentioned this before but if i did sorry uwu:
- solo bass mix konami originals were recorded in miami, using vocalists that have sung for dancemania bass covers, hysteria and let the beat hit em' clearly share the same vocalists
- am-3p is technically the first DDR/Naoki song to feature japanese vocals of sorts uwu

speaking of am-3p, said song and put your faith in me also are the first DDR/Naoki songs to feature NON-sampled vocals (Put Your Faith In Me has a lyricist credited, the female vocals are the ones recorded specifically for the song)

scrapped 3rd MIX PLUS song TOTAL RECALL appears in beatmania, however, the beatmania cut is different from the cut of the song data that was found in the 3rd MIX PLUS data

DoLL and Ki-Se-Ki are the only(?) songs in DDR SN that kept their BGs, though DoLL's bg is merely the intro to the video that appears along with the song, and Ki-Se-Ki's bg is embedded to its' video probably

Misc: ULTRA HIGH HEELS being planned to appear on 4th Mix turned out to be a hoax Cry no any sort of data appears in the 4th mix files, and the pop'n music comment is most likely misspoke about the vocalist appearing in DDR unless she did Dancemania songs (or one of the songs with non-sampled vocals that we don't know who the vocalist is as of this writing)
IF YOU WERE HERE was going to have its' long version in 5th Mix, but the only source we know of that was gonna happen is from IGN and nothing else, and it's only mentioned by IGN stating there'd be long versions of popular songs and they go to name on popular DDR song, and IF YOU WERE HERE was one of them so who knows if IF YOU WERE HERE was gonna have its' long version there or if IGN was just randomly naming examples of (potentially to get their long version on 5th MIX) famous DDR classics
and more fun facts later to come uwu

Sucks ULTRA HIGH HEELS ended up being just a hoax. I wonder if the rumored I'M THE ONE song from the 2ndMix loctest will end up being just a hoax as well since there's zero info on it (aside from the claims that appear on Remywiki).

I'm highly doubtful about that. The two licensed long versions are new songs that have never appeared in any DDR game before 5thMix.

Also I don't know if this has been noted anywhere else, but the start of DYNAMITE RAVE on one of the Megamixes sounds exactly the same as the part that comes after the first set of rap in the long version from 5thMix. I kinda believe that the long version of that song was produced almost at the same time as the short version of the song

Maybe but there's no new real lyrics added to Dynamite rave in the full version and it sounds like it's been added onto tbh and megamix versions of existing songs tend to have parts similar to other different existing versions of their respective songs and such (Max 300 nonstop megamix remix sounds similar to the IIDX version for example)
also b4u/Dynamite rave classics but KOs but still yeah so they still could've planned for classic licenses to get playable long version or not idk who knows haha
