I'm curious to see how people have Stepmania set up for keyboard play.
I personally used to use the default arrows, but I switched to a more linear format of z,x,c,v after my friend suggested I should try it. I've stuck to it since and have increased my skill too from switching.
So what's your configuration?

I use WSAD and the 8456 configuration, aswell as the arrows. Depending on what feels more comfortable at the time. It also lets me use 4 arrows at once, which is nice. Always WSAD though.

I have it set two was:
Regular arrow keys and/or TGFH
Not sure why I have it like that, but it feels ok to me so I continue to use it this way

P1 arrows are ASWD and FGTH
P2 Arrows are arrow keys and JKIL
I use the alternate sets for doubles play since they are right next to each other.

I could never get the hang of a config like that. I'd end up pressing the wrong key repeatedlyI need it as close to realistic as possible since I index
I'm also surprised to see a lot of people using the arrow keys or an arrangement that resembles so. I always remember I had difficulties doing certain step patterns with that configuration.
Though another reason I switched was because the arrow keys on my laptop keyboard are too condensed
