StepMania SSC (also known as sm-ssc) is a fork of StepMania. The primary goal was to be useful to themers, but over time, other changes have made their way in.
Current Release: v1.2.3 [2011/03/14]

I don't know how many people here care about this, but this also supports a KB7 game mode, which is essentially like O2Jam. It even treats chords as individual judgements instead of judging the whole chord the same.

Screenshots. Or else I fail to grasp any interest in downloading.

If you want screenshots of what's so special about the theming, this unreleased theme may be the best example of that shown in screenshots (though the theme may never be released). I'm not too much of a themer though, so there may be a lot of differences there I'm unaware of.
If you mean screenshots of KB7 mode, I just uploaded one to the picture gallery (yeah, it's even my simfile). If you're looking for KB7 files, there's a few at KeyBeat Online's forum. I don't know where else to get any though.

I've only briefly looked at sm-ssc (I checked it out just a few days ago), but the default theme is definitely pretty well done. I'll look around and play with themes for it sometime when I'm not busy studying. So far I would have to say... great work on this.

They should make an 8 panel mode (U,D,L,R,UR,UL,DR,DL) for this or for another stepmania. For the 4(single), 8(double) and 6(solo) on the left of the difficulty, the 8 panel would be like, 8-S, and 16-D. This is only considering the new DDR game with 8 panel mode though...

The thing is, it's not just a theme. It's a new version of StepMania.

This is awesome. I'm going to give this a shot. So other than the default theme, what is new in this version?
Edit: Is it just me or is this game crashing as soon as I try launching it?

If it's crashing because of "the application configuration is incorrect", you probably need the Visual C++ 2008 runtimes:
32-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en
64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=BA9257CA-337F-4B40-8C14-157CFDFFEE4E&displaylang=en
If that's not the issue, try running the non-SSE2 build.
If you still get a crash, please post the crashlog (via attachment, pastie.org, or whatever) and I will try and help.

Just tried installing Visual C++ 2008 runtime (and restarted) and it is still crashing right after I click the .exe file.
Also if you mean "non-SSE2 build" by another version of Stepmania, 3.9 works fine and 4.0 recently decided a few weeks ago to stop working on my user. It works on another for some strange reason.
Anywho, I'll go ahead and post what is in crashinfo.txt
lol Stepmania devided by 0 XD

My game crashed because I attempted to go to my player option to speed up the notes. I got no crash report. I can pick a song with no options, but I'll have to play with 1x and that kinda sucks. Help please.

If you're on Windows 7/Vista, don't install the program into Program Files. (It's mentioned on the front page and in the installer for rc1.5.)

After playing the game a SpeedMods.txt file should appear in the Data folder, and changing it should be self-explanatory.
What's the difference between the normal and non-SSE2 build anyway?

go into the Data folder, which is located in the sm-ssc directory, then open the SpeedMods.txt file and edit whatever speeds you want to apply to the game. It's interesting for me.. ^^

I've got a question myself, I'd like to edit the GlobalOffest to r21 standards, where can I find the preferences.ini file? I can't seem to figure out where it can be hiding or if it's been renamed with sm-ssc...
Thanks! This version is absolutely the best simulator there is! Gotta love widescreen!

The normal build is optimized for processors with SSE2. In my unofficial testing, I've found the SSE2 build works faster for me. (I got the SSE2 idea from OpenITG)Quote: Axel

If you're on Windows, it should've made a shortcut called "Open sm-ssc Settings Folder", which points to %APPDATA%\sm-ssc\. From there, it should be in the Save folder.
(General Unrelated Tip: If you have another StepMania install you want to share the songs from, edit AdditionalSongFolders to include the path to the Songs folder.)
