What are some good places to buy DDR machines? I would love to get a new (or even used, but that's highly unlikely for X2) X or X2. I just really want to have my own DDR machine. It's just not the same with those plastic mats.

My best bet is from the manufacterur's themselves, you MAAAAAY be lucky enough to find new or used DDR X cabs/upgrade kits on ebay or Amazon or somewhere, but it is RARE.
Good luck mustering about $10k - $15k

if you have some money stored, call the distributors, like Electrocoin.
Channelbeat is always a good option.

I'd advise caution with that. Aside from expensive shipping costs (unless you live in Hong Kong, natch)... Whilst some people have had flawless transactions with Coinopexpress and Channelbeat, other people have had problem after problem. Your mileage may vary.
(And I'd never buy an upgrade kit off them - they are all bootlegs).

so then, discard Channelbeat and contact direct distributors... Hooky lives on US, so u need to ask Betson, the direct distributor. Unless he can pay a lot of money to import a cabinet from HK.

Betson? No thanks, I want a cabinet that is at least decent.
If only I could order directly from KoJ...

You should also look on craigslist. Sometimes local business try to dump off machines there.

Nope, nothing.I could also see if Tilt can part with their DDR USA. I think they were trying to get rid of it when it was Gameworks (it was near the party rooms before Tilt put all of the DDRs together; no one's ever by the party rooms unless they're coming from the movie theater). It probably gets less business than SN2 or X. Then again, some people may not want to hear "COMBO WOMBO" every 30 seconds.
TBH, I'm not looking for one right now (I wouldn't know where to put it for Christmas, as it will fit best in the living room, which is where we always put the tree up), but when I am looking for one, should I call them?

My machine is in the living room of our flat. We decorated it with tinsel and put an angel on the marquee

I decided to make this a thread about DDR machines in general.
Here's an eBay auction for an obviously used EXTREME machine. It seems to work, but needs a little TLC to look nice: http://preview.tinyurl.com/3954o7m
It's local pickup only in Stanton, California, so anyone in Cali should try to get this.

Heh, I messaged that guy asking if he would be willing to part with (one) of the pads. I need one for my solo machine.

That's a Japanese cab (with memory card slots - can't tell from the pics if it has the memory card controller box), and a bootleg EXTREME installed. Odds are you'll need to replace the boot ROM to run anything else on it.

By bootleg, what do you mean? Do you mean a Megamix-like bootleg? And should I stay away from Extreme machines?Speaking of Megamix, there's one for sale for $7,595. O_o http://preview.tinyurl.com/33o7v24

No, I just mean it's been upgraded to EXTREME using a bootleg upgrade kit. It'll play that mix just fine, but won't be able to be upgraded to any other mix without replacing the boot ROM.

What's wrong with building a pad? If you got some time and a bit of cash, you can make a nice set of arcade pads. (for way less than the cost of a new machine) Well you could build your own cabinet for way less than the cost of a new machine.

a) Time and money isn't sufficient, you've gotta have skillz
b) DDR Machines don't always cost as much as you may think (I've seen them sell for as low as GBP£800 in the past, and the System 573 motherboard sells for £250 alone)
c) Time and money isn't sufficient, you've gotta have skillz - this is so important I'll say it twice. Real arcade pads involve a fair amount of precision and metalwork & welding to put together. Sure, it's piss easy to put together a Cobalt Flux/homestyle pad, but it doesn't work quite so easily for an arcade pad.

How much would that be in US bucks, roughly?
BTW there's a 4th mix Plus on e-bay going for $2k.
