"ARR JOO LEADY??" |
I mean, don't get me wrong, what these companies are coming up with is terrific. There's quite a few things I'm really looking forward to: "The New DDR", MvC3 and KoF XIII, RB3 and DJH2 just to kick the list off.
And I kinda like what the Big 3 have in store, you know... Natal, Move, and 3DS are very nifty in concept - but really, I know there ain't a snowman's chance in Hell I'll have the money to keep up with even ONE of those new hardware systems, let alone all of it! Plus, while I like the concepts and the potential involved in them - I absolutely HATE their motivation in doing so; which appears to be "screw the core gamers, the 40 billon of them already just aren't enough for us!"
The closest thing I can see to a positive outcome in all of this, is a redefinition and resurgence of an Arcade scene. But unlike arcades of old with their coin-op machines, these newer ones are being built on newer consoles, and a pay-per-minutes system that absolutely sucks dusty carcass balls - because you lose cashflow regardless of whether you win or lose the game itself.
Actually, it's not THAT bad. $0.25 @ 5min = $3/hr. $12 = half a day, practically. I have seen some places charge $5 per half-hour though, and that's ridiculous. But still - I like owning and playing games/systems at my convenience, within my budget range. And the core gamer had better not be neglected in this tremendous mess.
__________
Point being: The greater the difference between an "anybody's" budget and the cost of these, the more incentive (and thus, time and resources) will be geared towards piracy in response. And I think we can all agree, nobody wants more of that.
And all of this shit is just getting WAY too expensive.
