Console Crossover Challenge #5 (4/30/2010)

Time for challenge #5, and a recap of the rules:

Post a picture or a playthrough video (including results) of songs featured in the challenges. Any mode/difficulty/modifiers are cool, but it must be played on an official DDR product (console, arcade, etc.), not StepMania. You may also play an offical chart not featured on a particular title as an edit or alternative mode (like Extreme USA's mission mode steps), but it must be accompanied by a video, illustrating the correct stepchart.

OKs and Marvelous steps are counted as Perfects; songs are judged by Perfects + Greats. You might also post a total for each challenge, which is used in the event of a tie. Highest score per song takes that song, most songs wins that challenge. If you win the Global Challenge, you are then allowed to select a DDR game to be featured in the next challenge.

I'm gonna be a little more loose this time, pairing Global songs that appear in at least TWO of the titles (just for kicks - and because many of them are easily accessible to anybody), and leaving the contest open a little longer this time. You don't have to play them all in one session either, so feel free to bound around your scores a bit. Plus keep in mind, you don't have to play all of the songs to win, either. Play what you like, and skip what you don't. This may help flesh out the challenges a bit, and still allow some smooth pacing about it, giving players enough time to complete plenty.

I do request that you make one "results post," and edit that to update your scores as you acquire them. Discussion can be wherever, but your scoring results should be conveniently in one place, or at least one post "per challenge" at most.

This contest will conclude on May 18th. That's two and a half weeks, this time. And for good reason, there's a lot to chew on with this one...

Yes. Looking back on the list, this is a LOT more balanced than past weeks, and seems to have a better general feel like I was going for. Even if you can't play "all Global challenges" on any specific game, most of the players can complete most of the songs, regardless of their system/region. Also, "Japan Challenge" should appeal more to arcade-players, whereas America/Europe Challenges should appeal to home-players, and thus, everybody can have some fun with it.

I think I'm gonna stick with this newer system, we'll see about the 2.5 week window. I'm hoping the thread doesn't get buried by then - but something tells me it's probably nothing to worry about.

So... a great is the same number of points as a perfect, right? Then a Full combo would essentially be the same thing as a AAA? ... or am I missing something?

I think marvelouses and OKs count as Perfects, and Greats are, well, just Greats. Possibly.

No, greats can help your combo, but they won't give you as many points as a Marvelous or a Perfect. I've gotten a Full Combo with only a B. I think it's enough to make me mental btw, since I am still trying to get to Pizza Box, and get a AA on Healing-D-Vision for Trial 8. I full combo-ed it twice today and only got a 9.3 instead of a 9.5.

Does anyone know what games have the song: Kiss Me All Night Long?
I know that the DDR Extreme Arcade has the song Destiny Lovers.

DDR Universe has Kiss Me All Night Long as downloadable content. Other games, nope. Unless if you have a European collection, as well, where I think Unleashed 3 has it. And Ultramix 3 in the U.S. might have it.

And also, if you get a full combo in Max or Max 2, it's an automatic AA, regardless of the steps. You can have everything hit be a great, and it would be an AA. Not so sure about NG's, though.

I might actually try this CCC. I've been meaning to do them for a while.

I'm well aware that on the games, a perfect and a great are not the same value

For the purpose of this challenge, they seem to be though.

To me, this says that someone with 565 perfects and 8 greats will get the same score (in this challenge) as someone who gets 500 perfects and 73 greats, so basically a full combo seems to be the best score.

This is the right. Logic: Greats break ties between equal Perfect totals, which may vary since that includes optional Freezes/OKs. Marvs don't work within all versions either, but they still fit within the "Perfect" timing window.

If you're a domestic player without any XBox friends, and you really want to play it, you'll have to hit the arcade for it. Challenge will still be here when you get back! Otherwise, you can skip it if you'd like - you don't have to play all of the songs, just do the best you can at what you CAN play.

And Margo, that's the whole idea of being able to pick your mix. You basically get to "challenge" everybody else, as the reigning champ. Also bear in mind, if LoM is too brutal, you can set it to basically anything. Little, , even if you want. You could also play it on Hands and Feet mode on EXTREME (USA) too.

Yep. In fact, since that's another featured version, you could also take on almost the entire Japan Challenge as well! All of those songs besides MAX. (period) appear on it. And yeah... you think LoM is a challenge?

wow, In 1 session, I have nearly everything I can do on my home versions except Gamelan, The legend of MAX, and TL100s. I'll get those some other time. I got some accomplishments today I never thought I would ever get, so I'm happy.

Also, next time, might I suggest songs that don't drift? Do you want to and Funkytown are terribly hard to score on.

If I "win" the America challenge, can I choose the songs to be used in the next America challenge? i did really well, but I don't have anymore of these charts or access to a DDR cab D:

Kickin'. Look forward to the results! But songs that drift are just part of the whole shebang... everybody else who plays them has to deal with that too, so it's not like you're at a disadvantage or anything. Besides, not all music is electronically produced, and even songs that are, aren't a constant tempo.

So far, I'm just going with the Global Challenge winner - so if you get that, you can pick one of the next challenge's mixes. Maybe if this picks up across the regions, I may make it to where each region can pick it's related title; but for now, I'd like to keep a little randomness/chance about it. Also, Global Challenges will probably see the most tracklist variation, where regional ones just go along with the title they're exclusive to.

I AAA'd all of them, and the funny thing is, Sakura only took me 2 tries, but Funkytown and Do you want to both took me 7-10 tries each, haha.

Like I said, that was a fluke. If you see at the beginning of the video, I got 6g and a good. That good was the green note in the super slow part (which I somehow got a marv on lmao), I got a great on the step after that, and the other 5 greats were in that last slowdown, so ya, I probably won't be able to AAA Sakura again for a long time.
