What's the longest time you took off of playing IIDX? Mine's personally is about three or four months. The reason why I take time of IIDX is for two simple reasons.
One: I reach a plateau and don't see any more improvement. Example: I'm currently a level 10 player in most of my home IIDX games. When I can't seem to clear any more 10's and NOTHING improves, then it is time to take some time off.
BTW, I've noticed that time off of IIDX can actually IMPROVE your skills.
Two: I'm starting to play other games which are no where near as challenging as IIDX. Right now, I'm getting back into playing DDR, mainly from my PC. On my home PC, I run three different DDR Emulators; Stepmania CVS, In The Groove, and Mungyodance 3. I constantly switch between these three games, with ITG being my favorite. Trying to get back into shape and I've always enjoyed ITG even when the local arcade had an ITG machine (which (the local arcade) is now gone
). I found an In the Groove version from a bittorent site which has ITG 1, 2, 3 and Rebirth. Totally awesome ITG game
.
Anyway, these are my reasons for taking time off of IIDX. What's yours?

I dont have time to play. I get noise complaints all the time about playing which makes it so i can't play often. Sucks.
IIDX is one of the most difficult games to take a break from for me. I take over a week off and I'm getting like -200 to -300 for all of my songs.

Yeah it did the same for me. For some reason after two months without playing, I went from difficultly passing Nemesis(N) to succeed passing almost all the BMUS songs on Hyper, except V, Colors and Nemesis. Then a few weeks of playing were enough for me to get up to passing them without a problem. Though I can't seem to be able to pass anything higher than a 10 right now either... I passed Vanessa as a 11 and 2 others I can't quite remember right now... But all the others are too much for me it seems, no matter how long the break is!

Taking breaks off worked better for me when I was at a lower level, like 6-7, but I stopped playing for about 3 months and picked it up at the beginning of the year again and now I can't beat any of my scores on level 7-10s. And i can't pass some of the 10s I could pass before. This only puts me off playing further though, because I don't remember being as good as I used to be...
