I'm a guy, about 5'10 and I weight about 175 pounds. How long should I play DDR each week so that I can tone down? Right now, I play it about 3 times a week and set the workout mode to half an hour worth of songs. Is this good enough? What do you guys recommend?

It won't matter how often you play nor how long if your diet is crappy.
MY workout regimen for DDR is this [NOTE: THE TIMES ARE EXTREMELY VARIABLE BASED ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO]
This is for ONE SESSION: You can try doing 2 sessions a day if you have the time / energy and resources to do so
15 minutes (about 3 sets)
play songs you can do easily then stretch after each one to loosen the muscles
30 minutes (6 sets)
Step up the difficulty to songs you have trouble with , songs with loads of air (not Dynamite Rave air special, that's just silly)and stream are GREAT workout songs (I burned 100 calories on FELM standard once by spazzing and jumping at 400 bpm).
30 minutes (6sets)
Step the difficulty up a notch
If you can only do (X scale) 10s try some 11s and 12s
" " 12s try some 13s and 14s etc, etc.
When you feel you're about to fall over and you can't go any longer do a few more difficult songs then stop by playing an easy song or two.
I suggest keeping a steady supply of bananas nearby to give your body something to digest after working out, also nice hot showers help relax tense muscles and help re-energize you so you don't crash in the middle of your day.

Just play a lot like 3-4 times a week with long sessions like 2+ hours.
routine...
Play songs that are a good warm up and get your heart rate going. Then play harder and harder songs. Then play some easier songs again before you finish.

Assuming you aren't over-eating, that is. You can exercise all you like, but if you eat 10 bargain buckets a day, you probably aren't going to be losing weight. More seriously, the only way to know if you'll lose weight or not is to look at your diet AND the amount of exercise you are doing (and age can be a factor too, my metabolism is much slower than it was 10 years ago).
3 sessions a week at half an hour a session probably won't do much unless you are doing other physical exercise.
As an indicator, I'm an inch taller than the OP, I'm currently the same weight (how the hell have I put 6kg back on in the last 6 months?) and in the past month or two I've played about the same quantity of DDR on average, and haven't lost weight - because I've been eating badly, and been doing very little exercise apart from DDR.

It's all about heart rate. If you can play 15's new scale without breaking a sweat, give 17's a go. If one 9 song leaves you gasping, see if 8's will do as well. As long as you keep your heart rate in the correct weight loss zone (there are many charts online that'll tell you exactly where that is) you'll create the same effect as any other exercise. Just make sure there's warmup and cooldown.
Also, since you've got short breaks in between songs and sets, your workout has to be somewhat longer than comparable continuous activity.
Other tips:
* Try doubles. The extra movement helps limit the crampy, uneven effects of repetitive motion. If you're not used to them at first, try them for cooldown songs and play easy charts.
* Go barless. You'll have to wave your arms a bit (unless you're SO PRO), which will add to the workout.

One very important thing I forgot to mention and helps me a lot is this.
MOTIVATION!
Seriously, shoot for a goal and make objectives that are harder than what you can do now and work hard to complete them. Follow this and not only will you lose weight but you'll also be an excellent focused player.

play DDR a lot paired with any thirst quenching drinks served cold with L-Carnitine formula (?)... to replenish the fluid lost in your body during play plus L-Carnitine helps you lose weigh... i think there is any available powdered juice in different flavors that have L-Carnitine included sold at any market. Bottled juice drinks with this L-Carnitine is ok...
and avoid softdrinks or any carbonated drinks... it will give you thirst easily...

It won't matter how often you play nor how long if your diet is crappy.
I stand as evidence to the contrary. The first few years of DDR for me was spent running between the arcade and a McDonald's. Eating Quarter Pounders two or three times a day three to five days a week didn't keep DDR from making me drop 20 pounds and a very round gut. And salty fries are excellent for carb recovery during a long session. I still have a bit of a gut, but that's a Pepsi addiction we won't go into right now.

AFAIK L-Carnitine has no proven effects in losing weight. Better buy real fruit juice or just mineral water (plus some snacks in case you got hungry).

2 hours a day with some breaks (not 1 hour breaks
)
In between rounds, take a break. Walk around, talk, etc.
and...
play Standard-Expert-Challenge songs
Light would make no one sweat.

Says you. I sweat when I play Light charts, but that's mostly because I'm playing it over and over to get a full combo on camera.

The guy plays for about half an hour..
You think he will play 1 song in Light over and over playing Doubles or Free-styling?
I doubt that.
If he is playing Doubles and is free-styling, then AMEN.
