"why do you hate me...?" |
sorry if there's already a thread of this, i looked but couldn't find (please link if there is)
but the problem is, after being told we were getting an ITG 2 in the arcade to replace our DSSN i gathered up the files to hack, readyed (readided?) the songs and then....
we're not getting it.
manager changed his mind. "GREAT".
so we're left with the dumb old dance stage supernova.... and the same old songs.... boooorrriiinnngggg
so i need to know... is there ANY possible way to hack this hunk of junk or will it just be up to convincing the manager to get a new machine...?
all advice is welcome, i also have access to ALL sections of the machine
thanks in advance

Uhh... what?
The reason he doesn't want to replace it with an ITG2 is probably because DSSN makes money, wheras ITG2 usually doesn't make enough money to pay for the electricity it costs to turn it on.
What is your idea of "hacking" Supernova? If you mean "replace it with a different game, then yes, you can completely gut the machine, and replace the Python board with a System 573 board. There's no way any arcade is going to let you do this.

Clearly 303 songs is not enough for you?
Aside from the legal issues of adding songs to a machine which is in public use (hello Copyright laws)...
...no, this is not yet possible, short of obtaining a SuperNOVA 2 upgrade kit (or trying to get a very expensive and hard to obtain even if you are in Japan DDRX upgradw kit).
As others have said, you could always replace the Python 2 hardware with something else (a BoXoR/PC with a JPAC if you fancy ITG2).
The monitor is also wrong for this (31kHz, System 573 is 15kHz only) - you'll need a decent upscaler, too (or else replace the monitor).

are upgrade kits easy enough to work? i can't really spend to much time inside, on the account of i need to do it while the place is open, and have you got any idea where i could obtain one easily? XD

I doubt anyone will notice, but I just thought I'd point out it is technically breaching copyright.

Real upgrade kits are easy enough to install, but not easy to find - and cost a LOT of money (and are not available outside of Japan). DIY upgrade kits require technical knowledge.

ok, so i'm pretty much screwed? lol
just out out interest, say you were the manager and i provided you with a sheet of a website willing to buy our DSSN for just over $10,000 and they are selling an ITG 2 for $5,000 (that's $5,000 (est) PROFIT!!!!!) so it would come to around £3,000 profit...
would you do that!?
cause this guy won't!? 0_o
anyway... thanks for the help, i'l look around for these upgrade kits, so far i've found most of them for $450-$600, so it's not as bad as i was imagining
thank youuuuu

No, I'd keep the SuperNOVA, because it will make money every week, wheras the ITG2 won't make any.
An average DSSN probably makes £3000 every 4 months, so if you were to buy the ITG2, you'd have lost money after only 12 weeks, and you'd be stuck with an ITG2 machine you can't possibly get rid of.
There's a reason that DSSN costs twice as much as an ITG2 ^^;

Depends on shipping costs, import duties, and how much money I think the new machine will make compared to the old one. When you add on £550 of VAT, and at least several hundred pounds in freight (unless your ITG is in NI as well), not to mention shipping out the other unit, and lost income whilst the arcade is without a cabinet inbetween selling the old one and buying the new one...
Also, if a SuperNOVA makes £100 per week (say), and the ITG2 only £50, I wouldn't exchange machines, as the difference between the two would be paid off in 62 weeks.
Finally, SuperNOVA cabs aren't worth anywhere near $10,000 either. More like $5,000, tops (JNC in Bristol have two in stock for about that price).

Care to provide a link so we can see if it'll work on your cab or not?
EDIT: Beaten to it by Tyma :/

An average DSSN probably makes £5000 every 6 months, so if you were to buy the ITG2, you'd have lost money after only 6 months, and you'd be stuck with an ITG2 machine you can't possibly get rid of.

ok, so i'm seeing your point lol, but our SN doesn't make that much

meh, i'l see how it goes over the next month lol, i'l let you know the final result lol, and it will probably end up getting the ITG, since we're good friends with the mmanager, we have some good points on our side xD
"THE GREAT DDR vs ITG DEBATE!
SATURDAY 16TH JANUARY 2010
ODYSSEY ARENA BELFAST!
BE THERE!"
LOL XD

update on progress lol
so, the manager MAY have agreed, we've got him to sell one of the EM2s and we just need to convice him to ditch the DSSN, then we can get itg lol...
i'm assuming no one still has no idea on adding songs? :p
and just wondering....
would it not be as easy as taking out the disc, putting it in a laptop and adding songs to an already existing list? :p

For the third time: No, it's not possible. Not in the slightest.
