I don't know if CenturyLink's internet promotion package ($14.95 a month in the U.S. region) would result in smooth play for games like Halo 3 and GTA IV, so I wanted to know. Does anyone use CenturyLink for Xbox Live, or do you get what you pay for and have laggy play?

If they're broadband, it should be fine. Find out the mbps you get and we can help better.

I quoted this from Renard's forum page as well.
The bundles provided in the area is 768 Kbps, and the other is 1.5 Mbps. I know the smaller is going to be an issue, but I dunno about 1.5 Mbps yet.

Not gonna lie, but that's pretty slow, but it should work, but do go faster.

For Xbox Live, I'd go 3 Mbps minimum.
I checked CenturyLink's site. That $14.95 deal is for a bundle with phone service, but it's also 768kbps download speed. Since you live in Florida, check out other ISPs in your area for comparison.

Since Comcast is the other broadband company, I'll look there.
UPDATE: Well, as of this time of post, Comcast has this for only $19.99 a month for 6 months. It was originally $42.95 a month before, but I'm not sure when this offer will end.

Get download speeds up to 15 Mbps and uploads up to 3 Mbps with PowerBoost® for only $19.99 a month for 6 months!
Update again: Thanks for some advice on the chat room, Silent. I'll see how I can do here.
