---------------------------------------------
Update 10/10/09
I visited the skegness pier DDRX today and tested out about 6 edits, created using the newer WebEditor, all of which worked perfectly. Unfortunately however every other credit that i used the usb to play edits the DDRX crashed to windows with the following message:

Which i know means something along the lines of:
"New device installation is complete. For the device to use the support, the computer needs to reboot.
Would you like to reboot now?
Yes(Y)" (The button for "No(N)" is off the screen)
Which is very irritating because it means i can only apply one edit to the machine before it has to be fully rebooted. I had this before when trying edits as in the original post written below.
Atleast i now know that edits do work.
---------------------------------------------
I went with some edits to my local DDRX this weekend but even though, eventually, i could load them i couldnt view or play them. Heres a run down of what happened:
Firstly i placed 4 different edits, onto 4 seperate usb drives of two different makes. Placed in the root under the DATA_EDIT folder.
E.g. 'K:\DDR_EDIT\DDR_EDIT_U.DAT'
When i first plugged in the usb's one make was recognised and the other wasnt. The make that was recognised by DDRX verified the data but came up with a red warning message saying failed to load edit data.
I realised that the edit data had to be changed from DDR_EDIT_U.dat to DDR_EDIT_E.dat due to me being in the UK.
So i went back to the DDRX plugged in the USB, verified the data on the drive and i got a green 'data was loaded successfully' message, and i thought WOOT! its worked. But no matter where i looked i couldnt find the edit data anywhere. I tried looking for a seperate folder and then looking for an extension to the original songs but nothing.
I loaded 3 different edits onto DDRX all successfully, but nothing became viewable or playable, so frustratingly i have no clue why the edits didnt appear even though it said they had been loaded.
Below are 4 pictures, one of the edit enable spinning button, one of the current version of DDRX, one of the verifying data, and another of the loading success.

Im stumped as to why it loaded the data but wouldnt let me play the edits, if anyone has any information i would appreciate it as i want to start playing edits

No clue. I guess it would come up in a seperate folder, like they do in console games.

On Extreme AC, you double tap the right arrow on the pad to switch to edit data. Whether this is the way it works on X AC, I have no clue.

When edit data shows up on the USB and the machine recognizes it, on the Select Music screen, you just tap the left arrow once or twice and a "Edit Data" folder will appear. There you can view all of the edits from either the USB, the machine, or through e-amuse (if it has it...which in the US it won't anytime soon)

Edit - Nvm ignore this post i thought i meant u had to input a certain key combination, but after watching a youtube video the Edit Folder is clearly visible as soon as the game starts, which it wasnt when i tried it. I also found out that the JP message is not an error but infact its stating the following: "New device installation is complete. For the device to use the support, the computer needs to reboot".
Still stumped :/
Really ?? I feel really dumb lol.
Thanks for this info Max i was beggining to think that it was something to do with the fact that the web editor states that edits only work in the US, because a couple of times when i tried to load edit data the DDRX AC crashed to windows with a JP error.
Ill be trying this ASAP ^^
Also i read somewhere that at the end of the credit you load the edit, you get the option to save it, otherwise its not stored is this true?

Yeah, if your OMGItsStaticFish from Youtube, then you probably saw my edit being inputted and you also saw that the folder shows up right there on the beginning screen IF it detected the edit...Thanks for this info Max i was beggining to think that it was something to do with the fact that the web editor states that edits only work in the US, because a couple of times when i tried to load edit data the DDRX AC crashed to windows with a JP error.

As for your last question, i think it's as easy as playing the edit, passing it, and BOOM its saved onto the machine. IF the machine was online with e-amuse, after passing the edit and after doing your DDR run, before the credits it asks you if you want to save it onto your e-amuse card. If you choose to, you then select which edit you want to save it onto, and then the edit is saved onto your card. If you don't, then the machine keeps in it the "Edit Data/Machine" folder.
Simple as that (although i really am not quite that knowledgeable with how e-amuse works on DDR X, i think this is how the edits are saved either onto the machine and into the e-amuse network).
