"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
So one often discussion I have with people is how "DDR is getting boring". Well, I personally try to find ways to make the game more fun by spicing things up a bit.
One way that was taught to me was on Extreme, choosing Random All course with 4 players. The players divided up into 2 teams. Each person gets to play 2 songs in the course. usually this works best if you have a very skilled and a less skilled on each team. You have to wonder, do you let the less skill play a slightly more difficult song so that you can take on the evil 10 footer? What mods do you guys agree on?
I personally set up "goals". My first was to AA most of the singles Expert/Challenge charts. I did this for the most part. Now I'm going for doubles, but I try to AA songs in "sets", such as AA'ing all the Paranoias or both of the Groove songs.
Every once and a while I'll try to find a song that has spins and master all the spins in it. This works out to be very fun because you're goal isn't all about getting all greats anymore, it's being able to spin/turn and still make an ok grade. This can be loads of fun.
So what ideas do you guys have to make DDR last even longer?

Well, I tend to play DDR with two friends. For starters, we quickly organized the play. When the two people finish the song, the person on the 2P mat steps off while the person on the 1P mat steps over to the 2P mat. The third person gets on the 1P mat. Also, the person on the 1P mat has sole song selection rights. This way, everyone gets to play something they want to play and something new that someone else likes.
This rotation works well and keeps things from getting boring. It works especially well on a large mix like EXTREME JP CS.

Agreed.
Sometimes we can spice up when we playing DDR together.
Make some AA or AAA, or just playing for fun.

When I passed a hard song, that's the way I "spice up" DDR..

I personally enjoy 2-player DOUBLES. A poor man's COUPLE.

2 player doubles is really fun when you do crazy hard songs like Faxx, Paranoia Respoect or HDV Oni

We get 2 pads and free-style that shiz up on stuff that are fun. Yeah, I know Raspberry Heart sounds uncool but I love it.
Now to spice it you gotta love. I love doing that.
Anyone like getting two pads and having 4 people play stuff like Paranoia ~Hades~
?

Lonely versus. (left side is on turn left, right is on turn right)
Also, spicing things up is why I try new things with hands in the charts I make.

I'm like this too. I give to me a lot of different challenges. Some challenge who can take 1/2years, and some that just need a few tries to clear. One of my biggest challenge is to play every song in Expert/Challenge that is possible to play in France on arcade. So i have this arcade to do :
- Euromix1
- *Euromix2
- Fusion
- *Extreme
- *SuperNova
- SuperNova2
- DDRX
*already done or almost.
SuperNova2 is far from where i live. DDRX too + it's not fixed yet. Also i have money issue so this will take long

Like Daiz, i try to AA every songs. For exemple i have 9 non AA on SuperNOVA (+4 boss songs in Challenge that i can't pick).
I also play double a bit, and tried to get 50 AA. Now i try to pass a 10-double (not sakura/bag/genom screams) like Max300 or PS. But it's impossible for me now. I play not so much double, i must be comfortable on 9-double first.
And also, i try to AAA a lot of songs (i'm better to getting flags). I prefer try 9's than 6's. Even it's still cool to AAA a 6 sometimes.
Long time ago, i used to give lot of challenge to friends and they give challenge to me. We always challenged each other with stuff like "AA this nobar" "pass this on double" or "pass this with less than 30%". Good times ^^
Also i'm having fun somtimes by playing nobar and try to score. And if i see that i didn't score, i play relax, try to make all the crossover very well, or use hands for some arrows.

I spend $40 at the arcade whenever I go play.
With the first $10, I use nonstop courses to warm up.
With the second $10, I go down the list of songs in SN2 AC and play them. I take pictures of the score and I mark the song off a list.
The last $20 is used to play whatever I want.
That's what I've been doing ever since I got bored of just playing songs. I printed the SN2 songlist and started using it as a checklist. I've also been looking more into themed sets.

Holy hell, really? Curiously..how much per game? I probably spend 10$ on a long day, by which time i've had 2 rounds of warm-up songs, tried every boss song on SN2, and still have time to BS Freestlye around on stuff like 'Saturn'!(Fun Song
Anyway, I "spice up" DDR by having an awesome metal pad-widescreen system at home, inviting friends over frequently, grab some popcorn/drinks/digital cam, and make a day out of it. Constantly get new songs (well over 1500+ "stepmania" paddable custom songs by now!

Its a total different experience to also go w/ my friend "-Viper-" to arcades and just put on a show, freestyle, do TLOM in our sleep or something haha xD. DDR + Social + New Challenges/Variety = Perpetual Enjoyment.

Hi! Nice to meet you!

I waste $40 each time I go and the machine is set to $1 per player. So a game costs $2 for me

1. Modifiers are your friend.
2. So is Edit Mode, especially on arcade-compatible import titles.
3. Forget the bar, and the AAs, and do some spinny twists. Reinterpret how you think of arrow patterns, try doing little spurts by starting with the other foot and see what happens. You can forward-face the fast-spin sequences by whipping your up/down foot AROUND your left/right one.
4. Mix up your gaming. Don't hammer DDR alone until it becomes stale to you.
5. Pick up on "switch mode."
This was a fun thing a friend and I used to do when we played together... we'd pick songs on
(or easier
ones), and put them on Left + Right, or Normal + Mirror. Then, any time an up-to-down or down-to-up sequence showed up, we would both step straight across to each other's pads, and take over. It takes some time to get down, but it's outrageously fun. SYNCHRONIZED LOVE and BURNIN' THE FLOOR became synonomous with this kind of play. Holic was pretty trippy/interesting, too.

I often spend about 20-30$ a visit. Thank God our SN2 machine has doubles premium or it would be much much higher. Gamework's card system makes it very difficult to realize just how much you're actually spending at a time. Plus IIDX Gold is just plain addicting...
As for spicing the game up, as Donovan said--wha wha? Donovan?!? Looks like your finally posting!
As my good buddy Donovan said, it's infinitly less boring if you go with a friend. The little remarks between songs make all the difference and it makes accomplishments seem that much more awesome. Other than that, to spice up the game I've fairly recently started venturing into doubles mode. It's a different experience entirely!

You guys have it bad T_T I got 5$ worth of free games from a friendly manager just for beating an "In The Groove" Custom called "Destination"(14) in front of some eager onlookers, horniness ensued. 10$ Converts to 30 songs here in NY..damn that's about the only thing im going to miss when i come back down to AZ in..a day. /sigh.
