Has anyone given the recent Release Candidate Build 7100 a go?
Using it right now on the laptop which is dated 2003 with only 512mb RAM, had to hack around to get Aero theme to at least work on it but performance wise, it's more or less the same as XP and looks very good. It's MUCH faster than Vista.

I got a beta working on my laptop a while back, haven't bothered to install the RC yet because I don't want to screw up my dual boot, but I probably will move over soon. Works so much better than the horrible Vista installation it came with.

Yeah, don't clog threads up with useless Youtube vids.
I like the fact you can drag windows to the top to maximize the window or to the left or right to make it automatically take up half the screen. And, also the fact you can reorder the open applications in the taskbar.

It's funny how it's called Windows 7, yet internally it's Windows 6.1...
I do like how it attempts to make older programs more compatible with it than how it was with Vista. Will likely get it when it's out of the RC stage and into the RTM (Release to Manufacture) stage.

They're trying to hurriedly catch up to Apple, who's now at 10.5.6. As for me, I don't want to take the risk of downloading these things yet. I'm still waiting to try IE8 because of the bug reviews that are still coming...
But unless they can impress me with Windows 7 when it DOES come out and is commercially available, I'm getting an Apple laptop.

I'm already using IE8 (on XP SP3), are there any critical bugs I should be aware of?
Since my computer is so ancient, equipped with an Intel Celeron (2 Ghz, 1.99 as seen on System Properties) with 256 MB RAM, and 32 MB video...
I don't think I'll be picking this up in a while. But I'm liking what I'm seeing.

And Apple's about to go to 10.6 when Snow Leopard is released.

Lol eventually Apple's gonna run out of animals.
Although, I do favor Safari above any browser. I think IE8 is made to look different for Windows 7 and maybe even Vista, IMO from the screenshots.
I'd love to try Safari for Windows someday; I'm too lazy right now. Maybe if I can get my late grandfather's old laptop up and running... see my new thread "OS Questions" for my questions on it.

Downgrading from Win7 back to WinXP. Too much a performance hit for a laptop that was "Designed for Windows XP".

How did you upgrade your OS on a laptop? I heard they couldn't do that.Post #14 · Posted at 2009-06-11 09:20:25am 14.8 years ago

Whoever told you that is dumb.
You can switch to any OS you want; just that drivers may not work in some operating systems on some laptops.

I'm looking forward to Windows 7; will get a new laptop in a bit. I also can't run Windows 7 very well on this 2006 low-powered piece of garbage.

Maybe it was just for that specific laptop. My dad was fixing it and it refused to install any OS except for the one that came with it. Oh well at least I can now assume that my laptop can accept other OS s nowYou can switch to any OS you want; just that drivers may not work in some operating systems on some laptops.
