I'm sorry for posting this and for being a little unpaitent, but when will they officially annouce the next DDR game. Many people said probably this month, but they didn't say when they would.

Well considering the US still hasn't gotten DDRX and DDRX in Japan doesn't even have all unlocks revealed or events gone through, I say give it a bit later. I wouldn't be surprised if there is no new DDR for AC or CS for the rest of this year.

Edit: Or between now and June 2nd. Tongue

i would say no AC installment this year (look at the unlocks for JP AND the Us has yet to get theirs...)...

...but expect a CS version to come out this year and to be announced sometime between now and E3 (like what pie said) Tongue

DDR X was revealed in late May last year (not at E3 since E3 at that point was in its "big joke" mode), but it was not confirmed as the next AC until around July. We were all thinking it was gonna be another Extreme 2-esque "catch-up and evolve a bit mix"

"I did nothing wrong."
I heard that DDRX was going to be the last DDR game for both CS and AC. And PS2.

Where did you hear this? Also remember, DDR Extreme was going to officially be the last DDR for arcade and no one expected Extreme 2 and how great it was.

I seriously doubt DDR X will be the last one, there are no indications that it is, especially considering the new features they just came out with (shock arrows, new rating scale, new announcer, etc). I see DDR X as the start of the next-generation of DDR games. I considering DDR 1st-5th being one generation, 6th-SN2 being a generation and X being the first in the current one (to me a generation starts/ends at major changes, not just song additions/removals).

I can definitely see it moving to the Wii for main releases considering the Wii has a larger market for interactive games where as the PS2 is fading out and I don't see the PS3 being a viable market for DDR players.

I doubt that X will be the last release.

1st and 2ndMIX were *signficantly* different to 3rdMIX and 4thMIX, and 5thMIX had more engine changes than 6thMIX (though admittedly MAX added freeze arrows).

EXTREME was most definitely the end of a generation, too. Fusion, SuperNOVA and SuperNOVA 2 feel and play totally differently to the earlier games.

IMO, a better classification would be in terms of engine changes (ignoring solo and specialist releases)
1) System 573 analogue hardware: DanceDanceRevolution/Dancing Stage (including 1.5 Internet Ranking releases), DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX
2) Early System573 digital hardware (3rdMIX hardware): DanceDanceRevolution 3rdMIX, 3rdMIX Plus, 4thMIX, 4thMIX Plus/Dancing Stage EuroMIX
3) Transitional System573 digital hardware (5thMIX engine): DanceDanceRevolution 5thMIX
4) Late System573 digital hardware (DDRMAX engine): DDRMAX, DDRMAX2, DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME, Dancing Stage EuroMIX 2
5) Python 2 hardware: Dancing Stage Fusion, DanceDanceRevolution/Dancing Stage SuperNOVA, DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA 2.
6) BemaniPC hardware: DanceDanceRevolution X

It is also worth noting that Konami's development and release schedule for active rhythm games tends to be 8-12 months.

This is something that excites me and makes me feel impatient. But, for now, we still have to stick with DDR X. There are still unlocks left in the arcade, including SILVER DREAM, which I cannot wait for! Very Happy

I don't know that you can map fine lines in the DDR "generations" because of all the gradual changes. For example, Extreme came right before a long hiatus in AC releases and revived many Dancemania licenses, but also started the "keep a running list, add a few, remove a few" trend.

The next CS version: This year's will come around the usual time and not correspond to any AC game.

The next AC version: Some point at which they will have it ready at least three months before the following CS game.

Here comes the speculation train *choo choo*

Real Emotion (Tommie Sunshine's Brooklyn Fire Retouch) for DDR X-2 ( or DDR XD)?
We already have the costume changes...so Yuni, Emi, and Alice would be one team while Ruby, Jenny, and Bonnie are another.

I'm hearing rumors that a PS3 game, a Wii game, and Xbox 360 game will be announced at E3, but those are obviously just rumors and should be treated as such.

Do you think that means the same game across the big three consoles or three different games (DDR XI, Universe 4, HP3)?

Personally I think there will be CS announcements within the next 30 days and an new arcade announcement later in the summer. Unless Konami just keeps getting impatient with gradual unlocks, in which case they need to set a faster schedule for unlocks and IR sets. Or put a damn catch-all code in your machines so when you get bored and move on there's a single code or switch that flips everything on no matter what unlocks a machine has ala EXTREME.

It is possible that they would go for one spread-out DDR game, but would be unprecedented. All three of the main CS DDR series these days (The series corresponding to AC releases, Hottest Party, and Universe) have all operated pretty much separately, with their own individual team, unique songlists, and interfaces. Konami has obviously started to bridge that gap now that they have included Wii songs on DDR X, and I suppose that could be taken as a sign that Konami is looking to integrate the DDR games more.

I can also see how they could see a profitability in making only one DDR game across three consoles. Major costs could be cut in the labor department, sound teams for one, including composers. I'm not all that sure that licensing songs would cost less because I am not well versed in that department, but I guess the main question would be if licensing a song across a game released on three consoles would have significantly higher costs than the same song licensed on a game on one console. And of course, there are people associated with broad aspects of the game as the whole who could be shrinked if Konami switched to a one-game DDR this year.

However, I really don't see Konami doing this. I'm sure they've already looked at how they could cut costs by spreading one game to all three consoles, but I think Konami kind of prides itself on the uniqueness that each one of the series brings. Certainly when DDR starts declining in sales they may consider doing that, but X, HP2, and Uni 3 combined garnered over 1 million units sold in just half a year, nevermind the fact that Konami's going to be getting a huge influx of free publicity from the number of schools that are planning to include DDR in their curriculum over the next few years.

By the way, Disney Grooves has sold almost 25,000 units in its first month of release, which is about the same sales level DDR Disney Channel Edition got, despite the fact that Disney Channel Edition had a "Game-Only" option and the bundle wasn't as expensive as DG. So...you can probably expect another Disney DDR game next year...

By the way, take a gander over at the Amazon page for Disney Grooves. 14 reviews so far, and only one review is below 4 stars.

well speculation is speculation Tongue

All in all, i want to start a pool as to see who thinks that Konami will FINALLY put out a PS3 version and those that think that it will still continue onto the PS2

Also, combining the same game into all three consoles isn't much of a bad idea (look at GH and RB) but that's just it, Konami isn't like Activision and/or Harmonix, they can make almost a good amount of sales if they have their own unique games for the consoles. Plus, gives people more of a reason to buy the other games if that certain game has caught their taste of music and stuff (unlike GH and RB where you get the same songs on each console...except for the DS or PSP version).

They definitely need to maintain the uniqueness on all three consoles. XBOX 360 DDR wouldn't be the same if it were just the same songs we're used to seeing on PS2. That would have to really hurt their sales.

Although, if each game has, say, 25 songs in common, that might actually boost overall sales because people would actually get to be more familiar with UM/UNI songs. Even just crossing over UM/UNI songs to AC will also have a positive effect.

I mean if they did make a ps3 ddr game I would love to see songs from Universe series, and old revivals from older ddr songs, because I want to dance to so many songs.
