My old pad broke like 2 months ago, and I'm extremely annoyed and bored with playing DDR with a controller. Can anyone recommend me some good pads? Nothing to expensive... and as long as it sticks to the floor, I'll be happy.

If you want to good solid pad and don't want to be arcade accurate, get a red octane 5.0 on redoctane.com
Or get a cobalt flux if you want the best one.
Mymybox bluesharks are liquidating right now, so if you know someone who could pick one up, BUY IT!

I'd say a Cobalt Flux, but they run about 300USD (388CAD).
A cheaper alternative is the Red Octane Ignition 5.0, while a softpad, is 80USD (103CAD), and is compatible with PS2, XBOX (not 360), GCN, Wii, and PC.

Has anyone actually tried the Ignition 5.0 pads?
1. I didn't even know they already went up to 5.0
2. I heard the 3.0s weren't all that great, so I'm a little "eh" about 5.0.

lol, I clicked the "Reviews" tab on the page you linked to, and got a bunch of stuff talking about guitar hero. So I clicked the video tab, and got a video that shows a bit of someone doing a 7. Not a 9 where it starts to matter, or an 11 where it really matters what pad you're using, but a 7. And no score screen. Not exactly something to convince a pro that it's a good for hard songs.
Please, don't go around saying any pad is the best unless you have used it and other pads heavily for at least 6 months.

Huh, that's strange how GH stuff popped up.
This is the only review the Afterburner got though:
Decent pad for price|Rating:

Comment: It's great for how cheap it is compared to other places. Customer service is decent and helps you rather quickly if you have any problems... usually.
If you're planning on playing on a rather plush carpet, you'll probably need to get a plywood sheet to put it on or else it's really bendy.

I think this might be out of my league, but I use a slightly modded Fry's Electronic's dancepad. I can manage
Horatio on it just fine.
Seems simple enough. If you want to stick it to the floor use felt contacts on the bottom of the pad.

I tried that with my DDR Game soft pads and those stickers just ended up collecting dust from the floor; thus, they didn't stick anymore.

Not to mention, you ruin the surface, especially if it's carpet. I thought about taping down my soft pads when I used to play CS a lot, but I doubted it would be worth it.
(I wasn't actually too serious about optimal home play; after a short time, I started playing AC almost exclusively. I am thinking about buying a pad for SM, so I might consider the suggestions in this thread.)

Yes. If I'm not mistaken, the Afterburner can have a USB, but a soft pad will do just as well. The main reason I'm getting a metal pad is because of my ankle, since you can't wear sneakers on soft pads because of possible sensor damage.

I think the best DDR metal Pad is DSS SuperNova's pad in Pluit Village. It's the best Pad in Indonesia.
So smooth and challenging, coz there are 60 AAA
and
in that DSS SuperNova Arcade..
for a few month ago..
it was still belong to depok..
but now..
it has been removed to pluit..
just try the pad and enjoy the Supernova Challenge..

I am pretty happy with my RedOctane Afterburner. I purchased one with my income tax for 159.99 with free shipping. I bought it on a Thursday and it arrived on a Saturday. It is very sturdy. Looks awesome. The only problem so far is keeping it clean, moving it around and the front connector is a pain. I went to Home Depot and bought some screws for it to stay in the slot. Playing on it is accurate as well. I notice my local Arcade DDR extreme has some misses on it and I play excellently on my new Afterburner. The recessed arrrows help it feel good too. I was very skeptical of this pad because there were "mixed" reviews but all in all I am very happy with it.

I got four of these, put them together in a big square, and taped my soft pad to that. Works great.
(disclaimer: the upper end of my comfort zone is currently a slow 8, your mileage may vary)

My suggestion is don't buy a soft-pad if you want a real DDR experience
Red Octane is a good alternative... but it requires you no bar play...

Bar play can be considered as "minor cheating," if you will, because you get to hold on to something and you're not really moving your body as much as you normally would without a bar.
However, the upside to bar play is that you put less stress on your feet/ankles, so I suppose bar and non-bar play are more or less even.
