Couple things everyone should know about the nice information that Myst hid from everyone.
- The EXIF data of the photos he took show they were taken on December 21st. Meaning either his camera was a couple weeks off (which I doubt) or he actually went there almost 2 weeks before the machine was removed. Those photos are now gone from the gallery, so you'll just have to take my word on it.
- Nowhere on their forums (including hidden staff forums) was there talk of writing a review of the machine, or a rough draft of any review of sorts. That line was complete bullshit, it was said simply to save his ass.
- Even if Konami wanted to gather "real-world" feedback from regulars playing on the cabinet, then they should factor in the fact that there will be experienced players also in the group. You don't plop down a DDR machine and not expect it to be played by an experienced player. That's silly.
- If the previous point were true, then Konami's research was all in vain since Myst and his buddies showed up to play on it, skweing the numbers.
- Am I the only one noticing how they juggle back and forth between knowing about the machine first-hand, and then mentioning that they were told by someone else where it was?
- The reason why I thought the machine was in Blackpool was because that's what Myst told the people who weren't in his little clique. Sure they were close enough to him to get out the information that a machine was indeed in the country, but just not enough to get the real location. Dick move, Myst. Dick move.
There's more to the story than what is being told, for the sake of saving face with the community.

I just... don't get it. So Myst knew of a DDR X machine but didn't reveal anything about it to the community simply out of selfish spite? I don't really know a lot about the guy so I don't want to jump to conclusions.
From the view of a newb to this location test stuff can someone explain if this was meant to be an open-to-the-public test or not?
I guess I'm just confused on the whole issue.

well i don't know him a whole lot either, but i'm not going to jump to the conclusion that he kept the machine a secret just to hog it or he had legitimate reasons. i don't see why he would keep it a secret though, he gave the UK a nice DDR website and a stepmania machine. :-/
whatever.
whatever.

Of course it was open to the public. But there was no announcement.Myst just wanted to keep it to himself and his friends.

If anyone other than Myst was told, I'm sure it would've been posted on the forums and people would've flocked to it.

Quote: Myst, on DDR:UK's frontpage
As you are probably no doubt aware, there has been a few incidents over the last few days, I hope to clear this up.
I was contacted by a member of DDRUK, who wishes to remain anonymous, that they had discovered a location of a DDRX machine within the UK. Using my contacts I made a few queries into what was going on, and found out that the location was being used to test how the DDRX would do against the original Euromix Series at a place where the general public would be able to choose.
Note This location is not the test location, it was chosen to discover how the machine would do against the others. A very incomplete version of the software designed for the random member of the public, not the fans.
We decided to pay a visit to the machine, to take notes and to write up a review of how the machine was at this point, feed back my comments to the relevant parties, and just to see if the machine was actually there.
After we found the machine, we took our notes and came back to write up the review / article. However some of the site code had not been finished to accept the article, so I spent a few days working on this. A few days ago, I had finished the code and started work on uploading the photos to be used in the article.
Within a few moments of the first pictures going up, I had a couple of people already trying to call me up, contact me via email / msn / other, asking what was going on, and demanding to know where this location was. I told each person that I was currently in the process of writing something up, and just to wait till I get it on line.
Now take these and do what you must with them.
1) I do not know of any machines in Liverpool or Blackpool.
2) This location was designed for the general public, this is NOT a fan test location. That will be announced at a later date, and it will be in an accessible place, and be announced here when we know.
3) The machine will be at ATEI, to show to the trade. This news is public knowledge already though.
I hope this clear things up, however if you wish to discuss this with me personally, or anything else, my details can be found on my profile page.
I apologise if this has caused any problems or issues, and for the inconvenience this has caused. I will do my best to get information up as quickly as possible in the future.
Personally, I don't really know much about DDR:UK or its users, so I don't know if this Myst guy should be taken at his word with this post or if he's just making excuses. I'll leave that up to people who actually have experience with him.I was contacted by a member of DDRUK, who wishes to remain anonymous, that they had discovered a location of a DDRX machine within the UK. I personally can wait until the official release in my local arcade. It's a load of hype and drama over nothing in my opinion

^What he said, although this is allegedly not the first time he's done it and as soon as all this flared up a bunch of mods have havent posted on there in years in some cases just magically turned up and started mentioning how when we DO get told about location tests nobody goes there using the following examples:
Fusion location test : It was vaguely out of the way and from what we had been told it was basically the CS release in an arcade cabinet so nobody would have even WANTED to see that anyway
Max/2 Releases: Apparently nobody went to the first arcade to get these in the country despite promises of freeplay and stuff , but what isnt mentioned here is that this was about 7 years ago and i personally would have been 12 years old and most players around nowadays would have been too young or not into ddr at that time in their lives to give a damn about travelling
Although the Supernova location test and jubeat location tests were not mentioned considering how MASSIVELY popular they were at their location tests , i actually took an extra 90 minutes travel time just to go play jubeat.
Anyway im still waiting on this review he keeps saying he is putting up, and apparently the articles section hasnt worked for "Some time" as no articles can be uploaded, although i point to wildfireskunks iDance article which went up absolutely fine apparently!
End of the day its a load of drama over something nobody really gives a crap about and the only reason im even VAGUELY interested in DDR X is because ill have 95% of the supernova/2 songs if i get round to buying a conversion kit for my cabinet for it

Personally, I want to keep out of the way about this. If there was any loc test, I wouldn't care unless it was in the East Mids.

DF, that's pretty much what I was trying to get at. I realize I just spurred a bunch of drama but in reality how many more times is stuff like this going to happen? It's misleading journalism. If a machine is in a public location then it should be everyone's right and freedom to go play on it. None of this dickwagging and secrecy about it. It's new, people are showing interest in it. Don't keep it from the public.

If the machine was truly just to test X against Euromix with regards to the general public, then Myst shouldn't have gone. After all, he's a fan, isn't he? Seems kind of arrogant to say in one breath that the machine was for testing "random members of the public", and in the next breath talk about how you and your DDR buddies went down there and took plenty of pictures without telling anyone else the location.

You know i live in east mids right and i shall eventually be buying a conversion kit for my cabinet for it (should they even decide to make them

Again this is IF they make conversion kits and IF konami lets me buy one seeing as apparently they dont like me for importing (Even though i bought mine from an arcade) ... yet they love Myst it would seem

There will be upgrade kits for DDR X, they are being released on January 28th. For Japan anyways.

I concur with this sentiment. Pie puts it quite well, Myst does appear to be coming off as a hypocrite. I'd imagine he's really a swell bloke though but he really didn't handle this whole situation very well.I'm with Oni on the actual location being a problem for me. I'd love an excuse to got over to the East Mids though because Oni seems nice and I'd love an excuse to meet and play DDR with him. :3

Funny how people get hysterical over the secrecy of the location. I find it amusing.
But wrong at the same time.
