Hey all,

I was wondering, how do you put a symbol for the artist name of a simfile?

For one of my newer simfiles, I'd like to be able to put Σ as the artist rather than "Sigma". When I try to put it in the .sm file as the artist however, it just shows up as "?" in Stepmania.

I've looked through the forums for a thread on this but couldn't find one.

Isn't there an option called "Transliteration" or something like that in the Options menu? I think that's what lets you use symbols and such.

But I think some themes can't read certain symbols. I have a simfile somewhere that says it goes down to -50 BPM, but when the minus sign would normally appear, it only shows up as a question mark.

It happens to me too, but I have an "special sm file", particularly it never fails me with the symbols, and I don't know why

Download this

just copy the content of the SM file of your simfile, and paste it to the file that I just sent.

Then try putting the symbol there, it may work.

That's the only solution from now ...If someone has a better solution... I need to know too.

Doesn't Really matter.....do you know about the Translation Fonts in Fonts folder in main theme (Default)
here,you can see the supportables symbols (or Unicodes),and see if you Sigma symbol lies there.

Old-school method: Create a white-on-black image of the symbol, and on the #DISPLAYARTIST: line, type the filename in curly brackets like so: {sigma.png};

Still works! Also, if you save it as ASCII, it gets replaced anyways, so make sure the format's in something like Unicode/UTF-8 when you save it.

This is the easiest way to use symbols in .SM, works also with japanese fonts as long as you have installed the kanji packages. .DWI needs the first method anyway.
