Backed by the RIAA and MPAA, the PRO-IP Act has drawn criticism for its potential for extreme punishment. In its proposed state, the act could grant the government permission to seize all computers and compatible devices from a home if a single, pirated MP3 was discovered on one of the machines.
I'm screwed.

why does the government in the US have to be such a bother? have they ever heard of personal space? first the fact the US can listen to your cell phone's microphone even when it's off, and then this! i know it's illegal to have pirated MP3's to begin with but what is on a PERSON's computer is their PERSONal stuff and with this in act, it can no longer be called a PERSONal Computer

it better not! though i don't live in the US I think I can say no body would like the government searching through their files. besides someone will probably invent a computer program to block it anyways

If they were to search mine, which I doubt they would since I live in a small suburb, then I would take their asses to the Supreme Court.

Crap, my whole BeatmaniaIIDX soundtrack collection would be in danger if this passes.
To create a discussion:
So rather than invest time and money on other things, they decide to concentrate on pirated mp3s. *facepalm*
This is really ridiculous. And this better not be to save the music industry because there are other ways to do so.

Fran Healy from Travis actually thinks piracy isn't a bad thing. Seriously, in his opinion, by downloading the music, it shows that you're a fan of the artist, and you pay the price of the music through word of mouth to others. Of course, he admitted that he did it when he was younger, but go on...

It's worse than you think.
Quote: From the PRO-IP Act Wiki
On 2008-10-13 President George W. Bush signed the bill into law.
Preliminary punishments involve seizing of pirated copies and the device on which the copies are stored. Hefty fines may also follow.

So it's passed. Land of the Free my ass.
*Waits for NOV 4th*

Bump: It takes awhile for a law like this to go into effect. by that time, we'll have a new president and he might shoot the law down, so there's hope.
My IP changes every time I get online with the setup I have, so getting me with this law is next to imposable.

QFT & QFE.
Ever since that moron Bush entered office, he has done nothing to benefit the lower and middle class. All the s*** he's done was to benefit his rich friends and corporations. If McCain is elected, more than likely I'm packing my bags for Canada. At least they have free health care (correct me if I'm wrong).
